Yup, as the title states. Going to build a Nascar Charger! This is a bit out of my wheel house. (I generally don't build Nascar subjects) Haven't built a Nascar model since... Days of Thunder...Yeah, built the Mellow Yellow Lumina just like many others did at the time...I noticed this topic hasn't had a fresh build entry in a while soo, figure this was a good time to do this build!...Here we go!! This is Salvinos Jr. 71/72 Dodge Charger kit. This generic kit has the same components as the 71 Petty Charger kit minus the decals. The Petty cars were very well researched by Salvinos when designing the kit, and it shows. There are no decals in this kit though (I mean NONE). No problem!!! Powerslide makes a bunch of different decal sets for this kit. Everyone always does the Petty cars...He is the king after all. I like to do obscure stuff...Now don't get me wrong!!! Bobby Allison was anything but obscure. This car though, is one I have not seen on a show table in my region...Ever. That will probably change with the advent of these Charger offerings from Salvinos. I intend to build this one to show, Nascar is always a tough category to compete in. Soo, I'm gonna kick it in gear here and get a move on. Got a jump on some of the materials needed. Scale finishes Coca Cola Red and Coors gold (Couldn't find Coke gold) Both are base coat paints. Gotta clear coat most of the decal work anywhoo. I think this build is gonna be exclusive to this forum as well. Its a bit of work to do this on multiple forums. So sit back and enjoy the show!!!

Now THAT'S alot of work in prep Pete!! This is going to be one impressive build to watch. These kits are touted to be really good but from what I'm seeing there's alot of blems in them OOB.

Keep checking back Paul! This one is getting interesting...Yeah, its not all that and a bag of peanuts Joe. The kit has its issues like any other. I'm with you on the whole "There wonderful kits"...They are wonderful subjects though. I'm gonna do a bit of a review on this one as it stands right now...Later!

Made a little progress on this. Once all is said and done, this should be fairly convincing. At least now it looks like structure and not gapeing holes lol... Yes, cage work will commence shortly...Like, tomorrow. Thanks for looking! Stay tuned.

Ok so...More interesting lol...Got these disc brake wheel backs from Fireball model works. Been sittin' on em for a while. Felt this build was ideal for em since you can see the back of the wheels when the hood is open. Pity we wont see the front of the rotor/caliper through the wheel slots on this one though. Had to make an adjustment to the wheel spindle to get these to fit without sticking out too far. Drilled a larger hole in the spindle in order to set the wheel backs axle nub into it. This gave me exactly the right spacing/distance from the fender to look right. The kit parts would have set the wheel too far inboard in the wheel opening. A little paint detailing (7 different colors) and these things really come to life. Also started on the brake lines today. The clamps are 3D printed and come from Shapeways. I slipped a little piece of black hose in the clamp and slid the wire through it. I'll paint the clamps and then bond the stuff in place once all the interior lines/routing and wiring is sorted out. Next up: Don't know, I'm kinda all over the place with this build...Need to get organized.
