Managed to get the headliner painted this morning. Still needs a coat of laquer, but I just dry brushed it with a nail art brush since it has the bristles splayed out and long enough to put very little paint on. Now to prime the body.

The "metal parts" are painted. I used the paint I got mixed for the factory stock motm but since the kit didn't arrive in time I used it on this instead. It's called regency red but is darker than it appears in the pics. Hopefully when it's finished I'll get a sunny day for the final pics.

Does anyone have any tips on spraying wheels? I'm having real problems getting an even colour on them and have had to strip them twice already due to the slots not taking colour

I make sure i use a good primer first, light coat is all you will need, otherwise the paint will always bleed away mate. Then light coats of color.

Should have finished pics over the weekend. Currently putting the various parts together and for once I didn't forget the steering wheel, but I did forget the dash so sprayed it this morning

Well I'm not sure how it happened but now the chassis is glued it's sitting lower than I wanted. During all the test fitting it was 5mm higher.

I missed a section of the inside edge of the windows when I was doing the filler so rather than risk damaging it, I'm going to leave the window slightly open and use a souvenir flag and some old headphones to make a cooler to hang on it.

When I want them low it doesn't work, it was supposed to have a 40's/50's stance like those on custom car chronicle. And look how low the bottom of the engine is now, it'll never get on a beach, lol

Made the cooler, used a broken headphone and the stick from a souvenir flag and it only took 5 mins. Wish the rest of today went this well, big sigh... I think I'm going to paint it to match the wheels instead of the body

Breathtaking work all around! You are one FEARLESS builder, what with so many successful alterations. The fadeaway fender look with minimal wood resembles some of the GM Buick and Olds woodies of late '40s. I was wondering what you'd do with the inside roof as to paint. It's hard to get an authentic look with paint.

Managed to get the body on eventually. It took a bit more cutting on the inside of the body and a lot of sanding on the outside of the interior panels as it was a very tight fit. If I didn't fit the fadeaway fenders it would have had a little give in the sides. It was giving me fits even after all the last minute cutting and sanding as I couldn't force it on for fear of something breaking. I'm kicking myself now as I didn't take any interior pics before I put it on, and there is no way I'm going to be able to take the body off now without breaking something. I also had to trim the front of the chassis to clear the grille and remove the front suspension as I had put it too far forward. I think a couple of hours work and it will be finished tomorrow if all goes well. Only the wood panels, engine, lights (hope I have some that fit), skirts and bumper to fit now. I'm probably going to have to leave off the radiator hoses though as there is no space to get them in the engine bay now.

With the sound of splintering filler and the crack of plastic, I've wasted 3 months. It's not showing too well in the pics but there is splintered filler at the door edge, and the top of the same door is pushed out the width of the plastic, the rear pillar is broken right through and both sides of the engine bulkhead have splintered. Needless to say there was a lot of loud cursing but I managed to stop myself throwing it against the wall. I'm not even sure if I can be bothered to try and fix it now. At the moment I dont even want to look at it. I have a feeling it will break even more removing the body

Body has gone for a swim and on closer inspection it's the plastic that has broken on the bulkhead. There's no filler there to crack. Going to have to dig out all the filler and start over as the stripper I use will soak into it. Before I repaint it I intend to cut out all the lower body behind the fadeaways to make some more space and trim the floor a bit again for space. There is a little good about this happening though, I might actually remember to scribe in the door openings this time. It still leaves a sick feeling in my stomach though as it only had the (real) wood panels and a polish to do before I called it finished. I'll probably glue the skirts on before painting too just to save me having to scrape paint off later.

That's a real b!tch mate, but unfortunately custom modeling can bite you in the as$ more often than not. All you can do is what you are doing, strip it, and re do it again and hopefully remove the offending problems, then hold your breath when you go to put it back together again.... Good luck buddy.. it is a cool build.

Nothing is more irritating than doing the filler a second time. I've also trimmed more of the interior edges down on the body and interior panels to try and make some more space during assembly and the dash has gone for a swim so it will be the same shade as the body. Not sure what to do about the gauges and they were destroyed while removing the chrome piece from the dash.

If you got any decals of gauges and speedometer you could drill out the holes then cut out the decals ( leave them on the decal paper ) and then glue them in from the back side so the face of the gauges show through the holes I have done this on some of my builds and works good. Just make sure they are the same size as the hole you drilled out and cut them just a little bigger then the hole then glue them in

With a little luck I've just put on the last layer of filler. It seemed to work better the first time for some reason before it had to be srtipped. Hopefully get the primer on tomorrow
