Well - talk about your Deja vu!! If I remember correctly, the last Ebay build did crap like this to me.......
I remembered DeeCee saying he liked the "gold" top. That made me take a second look outside, (finally had a touch of sunshine yesterday after work). And sure as crap - it looked gold, NOT copper as I wanted. Plus, it still had a light moon crater effect going on - so I blocked it back to re-spray.... What looks like a glare from the light on the roof is not, that is the area that pitted, so I sanded it down to the white primer
Then I thought to myself - "Self" lets hit this with the Black Fusion paint first. Since this stuff levels so nicely, and it would show me the imperfections I may have missed....
You can see the moon craters now big time! I hit it one more time, lightly and set aside to check this morning. This morning's inspection has confirmed that there is something that lies beneath the paint that is, in the best way I could describe as - PURE EVIL......
This is happening nowhere else on the car, just confined to the roof. So, it's back to square one... in the pond she goes!

You need to crank up that air brush mate, with he paint going on thinner, it is a lot easier to control these things, ....i hate cans......( paint cans, the chesty ones are great..) smiley-scared002

No worries Ice, no way am I giving up. If it is one thing I have learned from everyone here, 99% of the time, plastic can be saved! I do need to start painting with my air gun like DeeCee said. I have played around with Future, and cleaning it. Just have not tried the paint. Hoping to have this scrubbed and reprimed this weekend to give it another try!

Scrubbed the body down and cleaned. Will let this dry, do some more sanding, then will hit it with some primer tonight. I do believe I may be changing my paint scheme. Still going to apply a full body decal to the bottom half, but I am thinking to go ALL black. Possibly a decal to cover the whole roof, unsure just yet. Toes and fingers crossed....

Thanks guys - well, maybe, just maybe it will work out. Just in case, there is another Del Ray body coming, (thank you Paul), if I cannot make this one work. After (2) prime coats, wet sanded with s 12000 pad, and now the first coat of black is on. The roof does have some scratches in it though. I will hit it all with a second coat tomorrow, do some wet sanding to see if I can blend them out. If not, I may go with a total roof decal as well. Worst case scenario - the body coming will step in to try another round. But I am thinking this black will lay good for coat 2, then wet sand and buff out.

A good wet sand on the roof will help remove those scratches mate, the paint will fill them in, then just repaint the whole roof again, and repeat if necessary . I am sure it will rock this time.

Wet sanded the roof this morning, (got up WAY too early - just couldn't rest, back was hurting all night). After I wet sanded, I gave it another light coat of paint. Barely any scratches to see. I also came up with another hair brain idea, maybe I will try it, still have not decided completely - I am doing a test on some spare plastic first to see what it may turn out like.
But for now - the roof looks pretty good - if I decide to stay black, I may give it another round of wet sanding and paint just to be sure - then it's time to get after the chassis, engine and polishing, then of course the dreaded BMF - smiley-scared002

Agree. Great save. Black is a hard color to pull off. At least that's what. Keep telling myself. Maybe it's time for me to give it a shot. Lol

ok, with the Ala Kart out - it was back to the Del Ray last night. I went and grabbed some dupli color, color changing paint. These pictures below are what I managed to get done, several light mist coats, until I got it, I think, just right. Depending on the angle, and the lighting, it's either black, or purple, or bronze. This is still just paint, no clear coat added yet.
