Hmmmm....
Had to go and look this one up.
Would the other, "obscure" year be:
1957 Oldsmobile J2 option???
And you were right about the W-30. I knew it started with the L-69, but didn't realize what all until I just read it, about it "blending" over into 67. Learn something new everyday!

Yea you got it.. 1966 was the only year offered on the performance or ( Muscle Car's ). But the original tri power was offered in 1957 originally , also the 58 was offered with the J-2 option. It did not show up again till 66, and then it was gone ( As far as Oldsmobile was concerned anyway )..

I want to say in 64 was when it was first offered. But of course, 68 and into the 70's is what we all know of
4-4-2 stands for: Four barrel carb Four speed tranny Dual exhausts

Coyote. Your pretty good with Olds facts for having a Mopar on your Avatar LOL. You are right again.. A Gold star...
OK I know 64 - 65 were pretty rare but what about the 66 and 67 ? They should be in your recognition along with 68 up..

oops - the 68 was a typo, was supposed to be 66
The 64 was a guess, I remembered it, being the year I was born. My cousins and Grandpa taught me tons of stuff about Oldsmobile when I was young, Lol

I know the last year for the 4-4-2 was 72, I think the collonad or something weird like that replaced it in 73

Actually the 442 went on until 1975. It stopped then, but it came back again in 1985 to 1988 and then stopped once again until 1990 also known as the Calais.A down sized front wheel drive Oldsmobile . Not what one would call a Muscle Car as we know it. To respond to your answer , NO it was not the Hurst Olds. Yes the 70 - 442's were bada--. So were some of the earlier ones though.. Oh yea , in 73-74-75 Olds did offer a 442, based off a cutlass as always So the Question is not yet answered.....

That one was a good one. I knew the W-30 was still offered in packages through the 70's. And every now and again, the badging would appear on what we all called a Cutlass. Wasn't it the Toranado that really started Oldsmobile in getting into the muscle car scene back in the 60's? And eventually some serious bada rides from 68 to 71, those I remember well. But for some reason, I remember those 60's a lot. I had a 66 barracuda back in the early 90's, just had the baby 283 in it, but man, always had that dream of throwin the hemi under that glass! Lol

The Toronado did not come out till 1966, but I would not call it a Muscle Car. Innovative , being one of the first front wheel drive cars yes , but Muscle Car ?? Still no answer yet.. Put on your thinking cap's...

1964 – the Olds offering was the "B09 Police Apprehender Pursuit" option - or B09 package
1991 was the last year for the 4-4-2, then referred to as a W-41

love it, love it LOVE IT!!! great trivia guys. back in my senior year of high school, 1978 to be exact, I drove a bad a$$ straight 6 maverick, but my buddy had a 1970 W-30 442, gold on gold 4 speed. every Saturday he would take out everyone.... except 1 he could never beat and that was a 429 CJ cyclone spoiler. another bad a$$ car that doesn't get the recognition it deserves.
I just lob this one up...
what was the first year for the big block in a corvette?

Still nobody got the ( 442 Drive Train in a Non 442 Advertised Oldsmobile.) That answer is still up for grabs. ANYONE KNOW Tubbs : The first 427 put into a Corvette from the factory was 1966. The 435 Hp 427 in a Vette also came about in 1967 with Tri power.. If memory serves me correctly..

Which drivetrain would that be? Oldsmobile used several motor/trans combos in the life of the 442. Example in the 60s it was a 400 cu in V8 but in the 80s it was a 305 cu in V8 with a 200R4 4 speed auto

1972 - Cutlass
This was the W-30 option that had the 442 package, (special engine designated in the VIN with the letter X)

O K . Yes Olds used different engines from inception in 1964 all the way till production's final ending. Most of the Drive trains were earmarked for the 442 Option only and not used in other models. The one I am looking for would be a MODEL that was NOT LISTED or ADVERTISED as a 442 . It did however use the same engine , trans , and Rear End as a 442 but not sold as a 442.. I guess to help simplify this question it would have been the 455 cu in Olds Engine and accompanying Tran's and Rear End.. What was the name of the Model and How many years was it offered Just to add a little twist, it WAS offered as a Convertible also..BUT offered with the AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION Only - No Manual Trans like its 442 brother...

Coyote. Not... as you said 72 cutlass W-30 that had the 442 package..72 Cutlass with the W-30 would only be a 442..The Model in question does not say 442 or W-30 anywhere on it..

Other than that, I am about down to a Turnpike Cruiser from 67 - Lol!!!
I have been researching so much, I feel I should go buy an Oldsmobile this weekend, hahaha

Well Good guesses guy's.. But no CORRECT ones yet.. JK and Tubbs : it is NOT any Wagon produced by Oldsmobile. As I stated earlier : It was offered in Convertible form also,there-by eliminating any Wagon's.. This is turning out to be Tougher than I thought.. OK , one more little hint. It DID NOT carry the same Body Style as a 442 or a 2dr Cutlass S .. A little more fancy or formal looking..

Wow,this is a lot harder than I imagined it would be. OK ,lets see if I can help you guys out any.. Not sure if this will help ( but there will be more hints to follow ): Upon my researching to help find hint's for you all, I discovered I needed to correct something. As it turns out , The Last Year for production it DID OFFER a 4spd as an option. That is news to me to, so even though I stand corrected it doesn't help you all very much. ( only 77 of the 4spd's were produced ). Overall production of this particular model ( during its total run) was just around 10,000 total. A little more rare than I thought. Probably why it is hard to answer.. OK even though it shared the same Drive Train and Chassis as this. .The Body is NOT the same . It only came in 2dr Hardtop and Convertible, and had NO designations as 442 or W-30, it did have a designation all to itself .It also had a short run of production as designated.. It does not belong to the Delta Class or the Jetstar Class. And as in the picture - it runs on the 442 Chassis,(overall size wise ). Don't Give up now... Good Luck
