I may have to change my choice of engine due to the small problem of the heads already touching the hood before fitting the valve covers. Having already cut the hood for the carbs I'm not sure which engine to fit now. Going to look through my other old ford kits for a decent non stock flathead, or failing that a carbed small block of some sort that will fit the hole in the hood. As it happens I also noticed the only stock part left is the front grille, lol

Either that, or just widen out the hood to fit the valve covers, and fab up some "side skirts" for on the hood? Just a thought - no matter what you come up with, it is bound to be awesome this is cool watching this build bud
Totally Rockin!!!!!!

perhaps you could remove the valve covers and sand/file the bottom(the side that goes against the engine) of them to gain some clearance

First few coats of filler primer now on. Going to have to fill another couple of areas again as now it's one colour I can see areas that need a bit more work to make me happy and so the colour I've decided on looks good. Not going black but going very dark red. I'm also going to have to scribe all the door shuts again as they were faint to begin with and have been near hidden by the primer.

Having a little bit of trouble with the filler on the the hood as it doesn't seem to want to stay on 2 small areas. Can I put it on top of the filler if it's well keyed? I'm not sure what the problem is as it's gone on well on all the rest and stayed on without any problems (other than being slow to set and making me impatient)

Must be some kind of oil spots or something. maybe a couple coats of prime, taped off in the areas would help?

I'll try that, there shouldn't be oil on it as I did all the work indoors away from any oil, but could it be the revell glue? I used it on the 2 areas that it isn't sticking to, and humbrol glue on the rest.

Hmmm - you wouldn't think it would be the glue, BUT you never know.
Wait a minute - were you eating potato chips when you were working on this? LOL But in all seriousness, that is what I figured messed me up one time. I was munching away on a bag of greasy chips a long time ago, and had paint issues. I figured the greasy fingers got to it - mo more snacks at the bench!

No potato chips but there was a few beers. Silly fact time, what you call potato chips in the US we call crisps in the UK, but we call french fries (which are actually belgian) chips. And just to confuse even more we have a brand of crisps called french fries.

Some actual progress to be seen now, I think I've got the hood sorted now but if it looks caka I think I have a chrome piece to cover the bit at the front edge from another kit. Hopefully be painting tomorrow.

Yep, looks like you got her nailed, (wait - didn't sound right), looks like you got her all tied up, (oh boy), looking great!!!
One of those big flying angels or something on the front of the hood would be wild, but might interfere with the awesome aerodynamics you have happening here. I think it will be fine bud - at least it looks like it will be..... terrific work!!

Just got the paint on. Going to have to flat back the roof and repaint as it fell and took a divet out in the middle but should be easy enough to fix. Will have pictures after the repair

Some folk just don't give a strawberry, After someone decided to go searching through the shed I went out to find the hood and one of the skirts had fallen on top of the lawnmower and the fenders behind a load of compost. So now everything is flatted down for yet another try at painting. I might have been a bit emotional(20 hours sleep in 7 days has that effect) but now I'm in the wrong for being hacked off and grumpy. I only had the roof to repaint until this ignorant git wrecked my paint job. All they had to do was ask but now I have to wait until tomorrow and hope for decent weather to paint as it's now windy for another attempt.

You will get this bud - I know you will. You have come so far on a fabulous build, aint no paint gonna get in the way! Hang in there, shake it off, do 3 jumping jacks, open and close the front door 5 times, run in 3 circles, lick the passenger side door handle on the car, and "Poof" it will work out - I promise!!
