Needing to get back to building instead of watching and commenting, so I am gonna jump into what is probably my favorite decade for cars - the 70's!!!!
I have had this opened Cuda kit in the stash for WAY too long. And I have been away from the bench WAY too long. Always wanted a purple Cuda for my built collection - so here we go!! road-rage-smiley-emoticon

Thank You Les - Mike - Dale - Mike.... feels good to be back at it. You guys are awesome in keeping my spirits up YOU ALL LIKE TOTALLY ROCK - smileyCASHS601_zps1c54a9c5
Anyways, got after looking and checking - really a simple kit. Kind of forget what level 2 kits, from years back were like. This should be a breeze and a great way to get back into the thick of it all.
Sanded and cleaned everything - ready for some primer, of which I am out..... But I will grab some tonight or tomorrow. I do have some black for the black parts - and will also pick up some satin black for the exterior parts, (rear spoiler, window louver, shaker air cleaner - you know, the awesome stuff that makes the car POP!). And yep, I know, never install the mirrors first rule, BUT, I wanted to give it a try just one time. Maybe it will help those little suckers to NOT fall off! Block is ready for some Hemi orange, and I sprayed some tan/gray metallic on the undies parts. I will doctor these up with some black as well
I also found a can of Model Master "Plymouth Plum Crazy", how crazy is that to find "Plymouth Plum Crazy" in a crazy collection of paints? No, I am not crazy either.... running-around-smiley-emoticon
Then I grabbed a parts box chock full of monkeys - NOPE - chock full of rims and tires!! road-rage-smiley-emoticon Pulled out a couple different styles, thinking I may change to a different rim, not really sure yet. Anybody like these choices better than what comes with the kit?
I do know I need to find some tire decals to match the box / stock tires from back in the day. Would like to have the same as on the box / and were stock back then, Goodyear on one side and then the tiny Polyglass wording on the other side.

I would have to look, but I know I have seen MOPAR colors, Ford colors, Chevy colors. Mostly in the Model Master paints though

Nice progress, Tom! I like the plan. I like the wheels on the left. Take a look at the tires on my yellow Cuda and tell me if that's what you're looking for.

The tires do have lettering like on your yellow Cuda - but I was looking to decal the sides with no lettering to look like the tires back in the day. I am sure I can find them somewhere on the ole inter-web-eBay-net, Lol

Look for a set of the Mopar ralleys that were recalled. I think you can find a set in the 69 Cuda kit. They are rare and cool

They are rare and cool The recall rims are pretty cool, but only look right on the 69 year model cars. ( just my 2 cents ). Cragars S/S rims or Keystone Klassic rims were the most popular back n the day....at least in my neck of the woods. I seem to remember a lot of the Keystones on Mopars, probably due to Soxs & Martin.

Hmmm..... smileyCACETROO_zps365bb43e
Some good ideas here guys, I'm gonna have to re-dig through the rims box. I like the Cragar idea, BUT, these rare rims like GB mentioned would be cool also
smileyCASHS601_zps1c54a9c5 And I will get after those tire decals from Fireball models. Thanks again for the tips gang - some awesome ideas.

I also like keystones if you can find a good detail set. If not and you decide on the rare rallys I have a set with your name on them just let me know.

I just may have to take you up on that GB!!! Shoot me a PM for what I can trade ya, or what you would want for those rims. Well, a little update - not a good one though. Everything was painted purple today, and came out quite nicely, or so I thought anyways. We went to the Dodgers double header tonight, (won both games by the way! woohoo!) Anyways, when we get back home, I go to see how things have dried, and everything looked great - UNTIL....... I turned to the driver's side, and wow, what a weird reaction - just the bottom half of the body looks like a bad teenager acme break out!! I have so had it with model can paint. Maybe it was an old can, maybe the car had an allergic reaction, maybe the Testor's Gods are out to get me, I don't know, but I know I don't care. Gonna get the "CC paint shop" up and running - period - and going the DeeCee way AUTO ACRYLICS ONLY - PERIOD - END OF STATEMENT I will remedy this, after she gets a good dip in the pond. Gonna get some auto acrylic purple, and will clear it with some Dupli-Color clear effex to give it just a touch of metallic.

That's tough! I hate when a paint job does something weird like this! Most of the time I just throw everything back in the box and come ba k to it later ( sometimes years later ). Hope you get this straighted out in a timely manner.

No worries Alan, pulled her out tonight, and with a little dish scrubber, the ponding is working well. Will let her soak some more and scrub her down again tomorrow night.

After a couple more days of soaking, got her all cleaned up once again. Luckily the mirrors stayed attached and didn't go down the drain! Then got after a few coats of prime, gonna do a touch of wet sanding before I lay down some Krylon Purple/ Also, started detailing the undies AND drilled out holes in the valve covers. Gonna go with a prewired distributor with yellow plug wires

Thanks Dale, well after we got home Sunday from our Saturday getaway, I got after some painting, and so far so good! We have Purple!! Will do some wet sanding and another light coat or two, wet sand smooth, decal, then clear
Picked up some pre-printed Goodyear / polyglas tires - these are sharp! Way nicer than if I would have used decals I think, Also, a huge thank you to GB, for sending me the infamous "Recall Rims" from back in the day. I plan to paint the centers aluminum, leaving the outer lip chrome. Also tried to do what the Pro's do here, and took a "mock-up" picture....

Looking SWEET mate, but may I suggest: ease up on the color wet sanding, one color wet sand should be enough, then get some clear on that sucker and wet sand that. Then do decals, and add more clear, which equals more depth.

Awesome tip sir!! two-thumbs-up-smiley-emoticon
Thanks John - trying my best not to screw this one up! smiley-scared002

Looking good Tom. a few bumps in the road, but your getting thru it quite well. if your going with the stock look, Google "Kelsey hayes mopar recall wheels" you'll see the center isn't silver. it's more of a greyish color. just thought I'd let you know. keep going, looking great. what color are you doing the shaker??

You know it tubbs - I have googled these rims a bit ago when beast said he had a set - the link below is what I found
www.wwnboa.org/khw.htm
I was actually thinking to stir up a little silver and some flat gray - to try and get that "gray - ISH" look. I am also debating on trying to drill out the slots, instead of just painting them black, BUT, I will probably just paint em - too easy that way
As far as the shaker - gonna stick with the normal satin black, matching the spoiler and stuff. Not going real custom like the rest of the 70's builds, I am not that good anyways
Not trying to win this contest, I am just glad to be a part of it. Been so dam busy this year, hard to believe we are 3/4 through July already smiley-scared002
I have always been kicking myself for not having a purple cuda in my built collection after all these years, I mean, it IS one of the dream cars I have ALWAYS wanted
