Frank, well on the autobahn, you coulda told the USAF that you were merely driving WITH traffic! Probably would not have believed ya tho.....LOL I had my fun in fast cars (Fastest I've ever driven, was a 426 Hemi Super Charged '70 Challenger funny car, coming up on 2 years ago.....for a fathers day gift from my wife and my Co. worker at the time, his brother owned a race team locally....what a freakin ride! A true 7 second car, I for the first time in my life seen 8 seconds flat........in a FULL 1/4th mile! ALL I heard was "Yer not gonna have a heart attack" as this "ride" for fathers day was AFTER my open heart surgery, and after I was back to being able to drive............. After about the 5th or 6th time I heard them ask me if I was "OK" and "Your not gonna have a heart attack are you?" I just said, OK you PIMA, IF I do have a heart attack, I'm gonna die with a smile on my face, now for Christs sake, let me enjoy this would ya LOL IF I wreck, bury the car with me or at least one valve cover! They didn't find me funny,....

Frank I truly envy you, I would give anything to drive a car like the Lambro just once. When I lived in Germany the autobahn fan through the little town I lived in and a friend of mine would come over and drink 5 star cognac with me and sometimes Distel Pils with it [that's 20 proof beer guy's} until around 2:00 in the morning and then we would walk to the autobahn, about 2 blocks from my place. It was built on an embankment and we would climb up and lay down right next to the road. In that area the Ferrari's and Lamborghini's would come out early in the morning because there was no traffic out in the country like we were and we would see their lights way down there and then here the faint wine of the engine and it would get closer and closer and then weeeooouuuu!!! right past our faces they would fly by at 200 or so and man it was a serious rush!!!

thanks Dennis. it truly was a rush like nothin else i've ever done and well worth the $350 it cost to do so. that's $150 for the car rental and $250 for the total, full coverage insurance.

Autobahn..
Yea I remember them..
It was back in the early 70s and I was driving down the Autobahn in a V8 Oldsmobile ( I was in the service, that's how I got a Olds in Germany ) just cruising along at 85 MPH, at night.. When i noticed headlights in my rear view mirror, I looked down to see how fast I was going ,then looked up at the road again and the Lights passed me, still don't know what it was , but it WAAAASSSS MOOOOOVVVVIINNGG along ....Autobahns back then were ( Run What You Brung ) so to speak. LOL

Sounds to me as tho the autobahn was some REAL fun.....Sadly tho, ot too probably at this point, never will, BUT, whats the road actually like? I mean is it truely like a race track, or just some straight road? See, I know of it, and heard of it, BUT never "seen" anything on it....
My uncles had stories of their days in the service and also talking of being on the Autobahn, and it sounds like a hell ride that at the same time sounds fun as hell for those of us that are speed demons (I include myself here) that would love to take a Viper or NOW a Hellcat Challenger on the that road.....My real truck has a 9 speed shift kit in it from Allison Transmission and I'd LOVE to feel the power when shifting in either of the 2 cars I mentioned on the autobahn!!!!!!I mean really, my truck doesn't move that fast, (Top speed with the govenor removed is 108 MPH)....And that is running all the gears right out to nothin'....BUT I know its NOT good for the ole girl as at that speed the ole girl is growlin' at me and the tires are howlin' just the same! BUT the power, at a lower speed, torque, is insane......
BUT to have that sort of gear shifting going on at high speeds and able to handle it, is a whole different story....I've only done that in my truck once since I've owned it.....BUT at truck pulls, I done well, I got 2nd place, only to a Ram, that had a blown 440 withthe headers up through the hood, and the beating pull? HE PULLED 3 INCHES FURTHER then I did....I have a pretty much stock 383 G.I. addition! I say it goes to the transmission....The owner of the Ram was happy he won, BUT he had to come and look at my truck more over then anything as I was challenging him as a stock truck, against a pro-pulling set up truck!
But shifting for speed in something over a 5 speed is something and no less then a TON of FUN!

The Autobahn is the first freeway ever built John. It's like any other freeway pretty much and it's not wide open to speeds everywhere. Only in certain places. When I was there in the Army places out in the country away from the cities had no speed limits. Some people don't know it but there were no speed limits in Montana except in the city limits until recently the cops decided to ticket people who went over 105 mph. Many car manufacture's test their exotics there.
