Just when you thought life couldn't get stranger, I was going to use my Hobby Lobby 50% coupon on a green mat and when I saw them, the big one was HUGE for $16. I got the $9.99 one instead and used the coupon on the Hot Rod mag's Ford Mustang flopper. Never thought the wife would go for this smileyCAELY0UD_zps3cc8a166 Anyway, got it home and it looks pretty dang good. I haven't broken out the parts yet; does anyone know if it's a 2 or 1 piece chassis? It looks simple; no fire suppression, one piece body with decals for front and rear lights, etc. I'm excited about plumbing this one as I'm gonna go braided from the cell to the pump, to the rear of the hat and to the fuel block, and then rubber lines to each injector. Gonna have to research this one for sure. However, I'm laying off the detail a bit. Only a single MSD box and a mag & wires.
The paint is white with massive decals; any opinions on a 'Vette yellow instead? Or maybe just can the Hot Rod decals and paint it totally different like a flake lime green. Like Ice said, I'll be able to switch back and forth if I get frustrated or bored.
So anyone with 1st hand experience building this, pls weigh in on complexity, etc. Got a lot of pics to take this weekend; new mat on the bench, progress on the Glidden and now some pics of this F/C with box, bags and unpacked!
Thanks!!!

Well, snuck in with my relocated workbench and new cutting mat, I added a couple pics of the 1/2 off Hot Rod reissue of the pretty standard Mustang flopper. I did some research on MCM and it appears that MPC used this kit as the basis for the new Connie Kalitta and the Shirley Muldowney car. I also have the 69-70 Candies & Hughes stored away along with the Chi-Town Hustler reissue for later builds.

So, it's been a long time sitting huh? Well, the pro stock is taking a much deserved break and tomorrow I'll have pictures up of the first stages of this build. So far I've experimented with different color combinations to get that older magnesium blower casting look (maybe it was steel?). Anyway, no chrome from the kit has stayed chrome! I'll have pics of the completed basic motor and the flat black frame. I'm using wrinkled slicks from SLIXX (Comp Resin) since the rear wheels aren't real big and I've got the fuel system planned out.
Rather than a slip of the tongue, I'll get as much done as I can tomorrow and post some images tomorrow night. I won't have it all done the way I want, but I think there'll be some surprises with homemade parts and stuff fashioned from a 1:1 Hemi model. Should be fun!

Hey Skip! I sent you a PM about the original Mako Shark f/c. If you google or bing it, there are lots of different years and color shots too. It would be too hard a paint job for me, but I've a feeling you could do it and just have your own Sharknado decals made!

Well, don't expect pics today! As some here know, there are good days and bad days. Today isn't starting out so good. I wasn't able to crawl out of bed until 10'ish a.m. and I'm on the couch now with a heating pad under my butt/lower back. All because of doing some fine tuning adjustments on my guitar last night sitting on the basement floor. That's the only thing I can think of. I may try this weekend. I have to finish a couple steps beforehand in the driver's area, but in essesence what I want to do is use rubber line from the bottom of the fuel cell to the side fuel pump's left side with a red/blue fitting. From the right side, a red/blue fitting with braided line will head up to a homemade Evergreen fuel block mounted right below the top of the blower. I have some ignition wire looms courtesy of schweck I hope to fashion into a linkage that looks like it attaches to the butterflies. From the rear side of the fuel block an aluminum line will travel back and down to another homemade fuel block behind the blower case. I have rubber line that I'm going to glue from the block to blower bottom, four on each side for the fuel injectors. Confused yet? Check out these pics: protechmodelparts.com/gallerypics/saglinbene/superchargedengine/116_eng_build_32.JPGprotechmodelparts.com/gallerypics/saglinbene/superchargedengine/116_eng_build_29.JPGOnly imagine mine A LOT less complicated! The bottom pic doesn't show where the line comes from the fuel cell, but it's on the front. The top pic shows two sets of rubber lines whereas mine will only have the lines near the bottom where the 'charger & top of the engine block meet. A dab of gold paint will more than make up for any fittings used on the rubber lines there. If the Lord willing I'm able, maybe tomorrow or Sunday I'll start putting some of my plan into action; however, today isn't going to be productive. Chins up, fellow builders with disabilities!

Well today is a little better. We've got some unneeded stuff to photograph and put on Ebay, so I might do some minor engine detailing. I can't do any ignition other than an MSD box and pre-assemble the driver's area to see where CM might lead me to wiring detail from guages.
I was thinking of working on the engine side of the fuel pump: braided line to the blower linkage fuel block. Teds gave me a free sample of two threaded mini screws; I was going to cut them down to only the heads for using with the linkage from the butterflies to the fuel block I might use a thin alum wire for the rod and a piece of wire loom for the linkage butterfly actuator. That would prolly be a day's work as it is 'cause the Ebaying. It takes time to take pictures, upload, create the listing figure a reasonable price, etc. Dang, I hate when housework and finances eat into my model building. No matter what, I'm gonna have a couple new pics before midnight!!!

you bet Ice, thanks bro. I'll get all the black fuel injector rubber tubes in place today and I've got the interior tub/seat and primed for detail painting (red tub bottom/seat with silver on top of compartment ledge and alum parts). They need pre-assembled and fitted into the frame to make sure I haven't messed something up!
It's nice working with a 1/8th scale display of an all built Hemi engine like those Muscle Machines so I can double check my worksmanship!

CM - wish I'd made it. Wish I could afford the real belt and cogs but it ain't gonna happen with this kit. However, you know whatever I learn here is going on the Cuda build and the Chi Town! I think some of Ted's small alum wire would work nice for that. I could strip some wire and CA it together, but I need that Pro Tech cog kit with belt material. Sounds like a good springtime project to work on, doesn't it? This detail is so much easier and more enjoyable than the Ford pro/stock. I wonder if that's good or bad?!?!?!?!?

Isn't the Kalitta re-issue the same thing? I thought they were? This engine seems way small and easy to put together; the instructions are all of 6-8 steps and if you didn't mod anything, you could put it together without a drop of paint! Just some SLIXX instrument panel decals and you could get away with it.
Now you and I are a different breed LOL! I've got one side of the black rubber injector wires (no core) CA glued and given the choice I'd recommend using alum .025 wire instead. Straight alum looks hot too and believe me, the danged rubber is a beach to glue, regardless of what you use. Not only that, the beautiful combo paint I came up with for the blower casing has to be reproduced and I've gotta use the tiniest brush I can find to slide behind the rubber lines and touch up the paint.
On the other side which I started this morning, I'm only glueing one wire at a time, start to finish. Should be simplier I hope! I'm going to flip a coin and decide if I want to look at the accelerator cable side of the Hemi to see if I can replicate the hardware from the leftover loom parts and a piece of black ignition wire with the end insulation stripped off. If so, I'll try it and just run the leftover wire behind the bellhousing.
I'm following the box paint suggestions of a nice flat red seat and bottom cockpit with silver on the top. I wish I'd thought this out further ahead and budgeted $4.00 for red spray paint. I already have a silver chrome and it looks so much better without brush strokes. I know I gotta get a cheap but usefull spray kit, but that's for tax time next year (prayerfully).
Even now, God is separating the wheat from the chaff. We are living in amazing yet frightening times. Keep the Faith John!

Man, some days you get the bear, some days the bear... well... I finished up the right side of the rubber fuel lines with a LOT of difficulty. I started on the left and decided to do one line at a time from front to back, instead of all front and then finishing up. The rubber line was ending up too thick to bend easily and patience didnt't help.
So, I ended up using a fresh xacto to cut all the CA glued lines, cleaning it up and and repainting the blower. In the meantime, the clean-up took out a couple of braided connections, the fuel pump and some paint. So, all today was spent putting all the detail back together, the fittings, and deciding to even use fuel lines. I eventually found some alum line from Teds that were much easier to work with. It's half-way done and the clean up turned out pretty well. If I had my way I'd look for another exact engine on Ebay or email the manufacturer and beg 'em for the parts for shipping costs & a little extra cash.
I'll add some pics when the engine is done and I may just switch back to the t-bird pro-stock for a couple coats of base before the contest kit arrives. It's gonna be a busy building winter!!!

CM: I stumbled upon your "Tiger" GTO in some B&W photos during some research on the Mako Shark funny car. You did an absolutely unbelievable job on the paint details! Man, I thought it just looked cool reversed 'cause it was a great idea; I didn't realize how realistic a job you did! How am I ever gonna compete in the new contest with you???
No matter what the build (unless it's some form of drag and I don't think they'd do that), I'm keeping any mods to ignition and battery detail. For once I'm going to toss all this 1:1 detail madness and focus on simple stuff: flocking, door handles and gulp, paint job!

Yep all the highly detail stuff can drive ya crazy man just be really clean and smooth that's what really pops in good pics. Hey don't think about it as competing bro we're just sharing our art work. I really could care less about winning stuff anymore just want to good art work that makes somebody smile. Your builds have improved so much so quick your definitely on your way to being a great artist.

Don't give up hope friends; the linkage and replacement plumbing for the blower fuel lines is done on the engine. I just have to touch up on the blower paint with a tiny brush and it'll be done. Problem is trying to document the build with this @!$#@%@#$^&$*%^%(&^ camera! I went outside yesterday in the cold and sunlight but couldn't replicate the success my friend had with the pro stock. I can't keep asking her to shoot my builds! I'm going to try again today and if I don't get it as close as I'd like, I take what I can get. I'll have the engine in the frame, and I'm finished with painting the interior bucket, so I'll work on painting the instrument bar, the roll cage, brake lever and get them installed with decals for gauges. That should make a good set of "next stage" build pics.
For now, like I mentioned on the thread it's flip-flopping between unseasonably warm and normal cold. If it tops 60 today, I'll be putting a coat of base white on the prepped Iaconia pro stock body. Wish me luck!

Last evening was a blessing for modeling; both the Mustang and pro stock (I'll put that in the proper thread). I finished touching up the Mustang flopper motor (again) by adding blower belt decals courtesy of CM's example. Short of the Pro Tech metal cog/belt material replacement set, belt decals are HOT for adding that easy SLIXX ticket to a blown application! All cockpit parts, handbrake, chute lever, instrument gauges are painted and ready to be glued and pre-fit to the chassis as instructed.
I really want to save the Pro-Tech dual oil filter setup for the Chi-Town Hustler, but I find it hard to believe they didn't even include ANY provision for an oil filter on this motor? Maybe something I'll discover when I actually prefit the engine and fuel cell, steering box, etc. I finally used one of my larger resin MSD boxes and it'll hang off the frame near the engine near the nice chrome coil they provided. I'm sticking to my guns with with wrinkled slicks on this one as it will look good with the body propped open. I've decided to do a picture layout of the engine, the completed engine/chassis/cockpit detailing and add in the Ted's Christmas/"need it now" order I made.
Can't wait to figure out where to shoot that one! BTW, propane ran out; no cooking gas right now, just microwave and grill outside. Ever had a grilled pizza? Cheese really absorbs the summer's hamburger odors and tastes quite yummy LOL! Add to that a threat of icy conditions this week over the holiday and it should be fun! We're bucking tradition anyway and having some Angus steak left in the freezer from summer and shrimp on the barbie. I don't care how cold it gets!

Well: up to date - engine done with chrome coil added and valve cover breathers, cockpit done with "borrowed" idea of shift light from CM (no shifting for that genre, but use it for whatever you want!), had the hand made tach and instrument decals in, harness decals, all the brake levers and 'chute lever, roll cage with padding and I mocked it all up on the chassis. What next? Bring it upstairs and promptly drop it on the carpet! The cockpit needed fixing, so back downstairs. It's back together, but no more of that. As promised, pics of updated prostock decals and a few goodies and some piecemeal shots of the flopper for you to critique. They sure didn't include much in the form of driver protection with the sheet metal I can tell ya!

Looking real good there Mitch. Excellent detailing. You mentioned driver protection. If you haven't been, and you get down to Ocala, Florida, you need to go to the Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing. I have been there several times, as it is just 40 minutes north of me. When you look at some of those cars all you can think about is how insane some of those guys must have been to get into those cars.

CM - yep, .031 alum from teds. I started with his rubber line, about .025 but it wouldn't bend tight enough for the last couple of injectors. The alum is the best solution and maybe even a little smaller wouldn't hurt. I'll try copper wire next time with a plastic black coating about the same size so it will have a more natural look than the aluminum. Everyone does it a little differently; that's the fun of it! I've got to get some dull clear coat or something on the blower belt decals as the decal solvent doesn't work so great, even with a 2nd coat.
Skip: I've seen pics of his museum and it's priceless! I hope when the "Don" passes on that someone will declare it a national landmark or have the money to keep it running. I'd hate to see all those vintage dragsters, floppers and pro stocks go by the wayside, along with the other odds & ends he preserves!
