And yes, I know I got one wrinkled tire in the wrong direction. I drove myself crazy test fitting them before gluing and both looked right. I've got the original slicks that came with the kit, but the wheels I can't replace until payday with a similar set. Is it worth spending money on new wheels and tires just to correct it or should I just forget it since it's not a competition piece anyway? I didn't discover it until I down loaded the images here anyway....

Depends on if YOURE happy with it. And go easy on capps, blower explosions and stuff like that have always ripped bodies off LOL.

Yeah, I am happy with it truthfully. I hope the things I've learned will help me do even better on the Chi Town Hustler build. In any case, I've got another set of slicks coming from Santa in my stocking and I've seen some nice Halibrand wheels online so I've got time to decide if I want to change it or not.
I've never been down on Capps, especially since he gave a little "tap out" to Baze a few years back LOL over a mtn. bike incident or something like that. I'm a diehard Force fan and always thought he was a fun loving racer who gave as much as he got from the racing community, especially in the case of the late "cowboy up" Eric Medlen, who had so much potential. I believe JFR was involved in the cockpit safety research as well when we lost Darrell Russell. Capps always seems to be the bridesmaid rather than the bride, so I kinda feel sorry for him, except when he's racing a Team Force car. I really think John should retire on top rather than have a run of bad luck the next few years and end up struggling to be competitive. Oh well, to each his own!

Seriously Mitch do you think john will ever quit? That man even when he's struggling is still having fun. I met him and capps at autograph signings they were doing and both great to the fans.

CM: Thank you bro! Looking back I really think tearing out the original rubber fuel injector lines and using alum was the right idea. I've seen others like this and it's pretty candy.
WheatonChris is gonna chuckle when he finds out I tore the wheels apart and am trying to get a spare pair from AMT. I browsed Scale Modeling by Chris and their "store window" Vega has the wrinkle going in the wrong direction too! And yes, I've tried about 50 times and they are case directional! I just decided to do the right thing since it'll be sitting for a while until the contest is over. AMT has been decent with me before over parts on a Nova build, so maybe they won't get mad if I tell them the truth. If not, Becky at SLIXX can get me the same look for about $4.00.
I met John right before a round at Maple Grove and the NHRA scooter was trying to haul him away to make a pass at the end of autograph signing. I desperately wanted to meet him, but it wasn't gonna happen. As he headed away, he turned and yelled "just the kids, only the kids!". I urged my 5 year old son forward and he grabbed onto John's grungy firesuit as John signed his t-shirt. He turned around and came running back with the biggest grin ever! I knew right then I'd seen Elvis at 1000"!

Gotcha bro. That big ol 426 has been a real inspiration on the Mustang. I hope it works with the Candies & Hughes funny car. I got that from a Hot Rod mag order a while back. Thanks for the high 5 on the Mustang. It looks kinda ominous in its raw form!

Man John F is an awesome guy I talked to him like he was my brother at Winter Nats at Pomona. I had this cool leather jacket on and spun me around and signed it on the back I nearly fainted. He's just a down to earth awesome guy.

Thanks Tim! It's still pretty raw though so I hope it looks better when it shines yellow like John's Torino did! That's the color I hope to spray it. Tim, do you have some updated pics of your 'Vette engine work like the one in your avatar? Could you post them? It looks really good!!!
John: You are one lucky guy with Pomona in your neck of the woods. Although I think JFR calls Indy their home, he always seems to shine in Pomona. I'd have fainted if I had the chance to jaw for a few minutes with him. I think there a handful of people I'd like to spend the day with (starting with Jesus) that I could just pick their brains for neat stuff and John Force is one of them. For all his accomplishments, he never got mouthy and bragging like Whit Whinesmore. And all that got him was kicked off team "Shoe" when Capps stamped his foot!

'Bout time for an update, huh? I bet everyone thinks I build chassis only! The Mustang got taped up on the outside and has had all 3 mist coats and 2 wetcoats of an unplanned color - I think it's called Mystic Black Metallic from the line of Testor's "One Coat" paints.
I decided this 'cause I've seen a real 1:1 version called "Nitro Mare". Firebird Designs came up with a great old English font for this in gold with a Crew list for the rear window with me, my wife and son listed! I've got a bunch of sponsor decals to choose from too. Anything was better that the original "HOT ROD" side decal indicating a real flopper that was never built!
I really don't like Fotki or some of the other online pic data clouds or whatever they are, but I'll use whatever is comparable with this site. When I post on MCM, I don't think I've found a limit yet except perhaps on size. Not dissing anyone as a free site such as this is great for members to take advantage of. I know from home schooling on web technology, server sites charge for space, utilities (compiling, file transfer, etc.)

Yeah! The Mustang is done from the paint shop and looks pretty good. These One Coat paints have a lot of metallic in 'em. I think I might be looking at some Tamiya in the future as I hear they lay down pretty easy and aren't hot or hard to deal with. Firebird Designs finished my "Nitro Mare" decals, so I can't wait to get it dry and ready. I'm nervous about applying a clear to it as it wreaked havoc with my Budweiser T-Bird's paint. I had to sand down the clear where it spotted and had some small bubbles once it was dry. I reshot the bad places with base color and looks great.
Anyone suggest a clear that's safe and easy to apply? This was "Testors One Coat" and I'm not touching that junk again. I may try Model Masters or Tamiya. I'm also pretty sure from now on Testor metallics are out. Tamiya gets high marks for easy on and not much risk of running.

Kalitta/HOT ROD f/c update: the chassis and engine are completely finished and I wish I could show you, but I still don't have time or patience for Photobucket. The body has been completed with Testors Midnight Black (or something like that) and has a slight silver flake to the black finish. I've applied the "Nitro Mare" decals and yes, they were a nightmare. Becareful what you design LOL.
I've applied BMF to the body's bottom between the wheelbase to simulate the aluminum support rails they added during a season to prevent fiberglass cracking during that era. Also finished last night were the crew decal, the appropriate AA/FC 7125 decal on the windshield and the front/rear light fascias from the real decal sheet. As Custom Muscle mentioned, if/when you muck about with aftermarket magnetos and fuel lines, etc., you'll need to modify the tinwork on the inside for clearance. I didn't do enough of it prior to installation and had to fab up some styrene adjustments to where the body fastens to the frame to allow it to be raised and lowered. Don't look half bad for a hacker!
Hope to have the Photobucket setup soon. This is the last update where you have to imagine the images.
Enjoy the pics further back on the thread until I get the newest!

Finally complete and wearing Black metallic, Nitro Mare is done. Nothing has changed from the above pics, except for the paint and decals. This project was very enjoyable. Look forward to pics on either Fotki or Photobucket soon.
