Skip: let me clarify that - we're studying American History in homeschool along with many of the issues facing an early America from the Revolution to the Civil War. With some help from my wife, we're discovering the difficulty in maintaining Christian values in our relationships with other ethnicities; this is complicated since we've traced our individual family ancestories to both Native American and african american groups, including 100% african slaves on plantations. So I struggle with what I see every day at the grocery store with WIC, EBT support, welfare and the predominance of people abusing it and MY TAXES! That's what I meant. And I've attended a few Gettysburg heated re-enactments in PA. They work pretty hard keeping things as consistent as possible. Besides, although I live in a very rural area, I still wouldn't feel comfortable flying a Confederate flag in my jeep window like some of the camo pickups do around here! I hope I didn't offend you Skip and I'm an Elephant, through and through! No offense taken Mitch. I was just poking a little fun with you about the Confederate thing and the sillyness of how we celebrate losing here in my town every year. Kudos on the home schooling. If I had kids that age again that's what I would be doing. I have been pushing it for our grandchildren. I never really relied on public school for my kids and was always supplementing it myself. I would see what they were learning, or the lack of it or some twisted revision, and picked up where the school system seemed to be failing. I understand your struggles, as they seem to mirror many of my own. I have relatives that abuse the system and it nauseates me, along with all the low info people that seem to be growing in large numbers. I am a Pachyderm myself, although I am pretty unhappy with the majority of the herd at this point. Oh, and we fly three flags on my little homestead. The American flag with the Marine Corps flag below it, and then the Gadsden flag below that. So now you should have figured out I am one of those crack pots, and we have thick skin. Live and let live brother.

Skip: people continue to amaze me here! I thought I was prolly like the oldest oldster on the block and everyone else was a young'ish hot shot cranking out these amazing works of art (you included!). That's pretty funny about the celebration but if it gets everyone together for a community event, it's pretty awesome. We have a nearby Winchester apple celebration every spring and it's always got a parade marshall like Pat Boone, William Shatner, etc. I have no idea what the attraction is, but it clogs up every major artery in and out of Winchester for two days! I had no idea what the flag name was, but I love the coiled snake design! Yeah, it's just the better of the two evils anymore and here in VA, we almost won for whatever that was worth. We won the governor's race a year or so ago and the first thing that happened was that the guy's daughter got married and every mother's son who'd illegally contributed to his campaign showed up providing free everything, including a two-week Ferrari ride for the couple. It was a major news story and just showed how much we're all alike. Don't know if I sent you this: it's literally a blueprint for my "Kalitta" HOT ROD magazine build coming up. Check out the pics: protechmodelparts.com/protechgallery.htmI have the raw Evergreen strips to build the fuel blocks on the back of the block/supercharger and enough black wire/rubber hose to fake the fuel injector lines (best view of that is the 1/16th Hemi from the side). Very little braided line involved. I can just glue the lines, use a few fittings when necessary and use gold paint on the fuel line at the ends! No fancy throttle spring, throttle line though for me. Just a distributor and perhaps one of my SLIXX blower belt decals for appearance. I've got Mr. Remington with 8 in the magazine and a nice double OO at the ready. Won't go far with an 18" barrel, but it'll do the trick.

Thanks for that link to Pro Tech. they have some nice pics for good reference. I have them bookmarked now. Need to order some of that stuff for my Sharknado build and some others down the line. I have styrene sheet, rod, and tubing for scratch building stuff, but need to start stocking up on PE parts and line/fitting supplies. I will be looking forward to your Kalitta build.

Skip: can you fill me in a bit on your Sharknado or is it a secret? I've been looking at those blown engines and seeing where I could cut corners even more (money wise). Teds is the #1 place I've seen for selection of rubber hose, either solid or hollow. It was then I found protech has a nice kit with 3 ribbed cogs and a belt for the blower. But the belt isn't rubber. CM has a hookup for that on Ebay. It all adds up!
I'll use my HOT ROD Mustang for improvising and testing my detailing theories before I attempt using them on the Candies & Hughes or Chi-Town Hustler funny cars. I want them to come out as nice as possible, even if I have to tone down detailing. I've never tried heavy duty work on a flopper before!
Have a great evening Skip and let me know if you can reveal anything about the secret Shark!

No secret on Sharknado. It's in the "Resin Mayhem" contest. I just haven't really gotten started on it much yet. It's going to be my first funnycar and resin build, so I'm not really sure as to what I am doing. I'll learn as I go. The body is a Jimmy Flintstone resin '68-'69 Corvette funnycar body using a Polar Lights Tommy Grove Mustang funnycar for a donor chassis and engine. In the Corvette world, the C3 Vettes (1968-82) are sometimes referred to as sharks, so I decided to call it "Sharknado".
The details on the engine and stuff I need to research, as I have been around them some, but never worked on any, so I don't have any intimate memories to go off of for the exact plumbing configurations and such. I know there will be compromises on some details, as I don't want to go broke building this, but I don't want to cheap out too much and hurt the build either. When I figure out my specific problems and solutions I'll be sure to share them with you and everyone else. Maybe my ideas or finds can help you or any others who are interested.

Skip: There was a topless (I think) 'vette in the late 60's -70's which was the "Mako Shark". You should look it up on google. It had a shark fin formed forward of the blower on the hood and the paint was similar to a great white - greyish blue on top fading down to white on the bottom! You could score on that easy! Does the entire have to be resin or just the body? The resin I've worked with is simply 2 days of soaking in Bleche white, wash with soap & water really good, air dry 2-3 hours. If the body has deformed in any way, just heat it up with hot water and reform it to it's original shape. You prolly know all this already, so I'm just blathering on. You can fill the pinholes and sand them fine, same as any other molding imperfections. Priming and painting is the same as styrene or so I've been told, just use a good CA glue; CA if it's thick can also be used as a filler and sanded, painted, etc. I'm excited to see your work Skip. I guess I didn't send you the link to Pro Tech's gallery of cars? Near the bottom they have 1/25 and 1/16 blown engines with detailed pics and what Pro Tech pieces were utilized in the building. I can tell you I love Pro Tech stuff; I get all of it from Teds so I don't have to write a check or use Paypal on the Pro Tech website. Here's the link: protechmodelparts.com/gallery.htm Click on "Our own builds - Protech" and scan towards the bottom for the 2 blown engine pics; if you don't select Pro Tech's gallery, you can pick any of the other builds and you'll see some amazing stuff. The best Christine pro mod you'll EVER see, pro stocks, NASCARs, just amazing!!! You're on top of this Skip; take a look at the 1/25 blown engine and you'll see how they didn't even get fancy with the fuel lines and linkage they way they did on the 1/16 scale. My head (and low rent parts bin already have just about everything I need to mimic the smaller version. And they don't charge much for P/E parts to use as butterfly linkage. Whatever you do, do it for you. That's what counts!!!

CM - Jeff Sauber. From my memories of the Super Circuit days of top sportsman which I have on tape, it's pretty dang close to 1:1. It's gotta be 1/16 to get the level of detail on the engine/chassis, etc. Man, it kicks my butt... Peace out bro!

CM - one small but important difference; the original Christine wasn't a blower car!!! But still, look at the stuff - the steering rack & pinion has rubber covers over the joints, all the catch can detail, it's crazy!!! Seriously though, who's got 6 months of time to build something like this? And would you insure it?

I don't have any updates other than I got a fire extinguisher finished and mounted to the passenger side floor to replace the passenger seat. SLIXX decals came to the rescue with a decal that when turned upside down, looks like an extinguisher fully charged! I also added Goodyear decals to the slicks and the front tires.
The best news is that not only have I test fit the primed body and hood, but our friends came by and visited this afternoon and the wife brought her camera. She took the finished chassis build outside in the sunlight and shot a bunch of great close-up and overall photos. I mean the lens was just inches from the chassis it was so close. The carbs, manifold and valve covers looked like they were cast or machined. No model can look as good just holding it as it looks on a hi-res monitor close up. It looked real life!!!
I've decided that no matter what, God willing next years tax return will contain enough to get the same camera kit she had. No special extra lenses, just the basic kit - around $250.

Hey Mitch man you were right AWESOME PICS ! Your build is looking fantastic ! Maybe you should tell your friend to hire out taking model pics. I used to know someone who did that. You would send her the model and she'd take like studio pics of it and then sent you a disc back with the model. Can't remember what she charged but it was reasonable.

Yeah guys, her work blew me away. One the other hand, it shows every minute detail of improvement I need to make! The Evergreen bores in the carbs were cut sloppily and dried a little crooked. I think I like the decal on the fire extinguisher the best LOL!

Looking really good there Mitch. What a difference a higher end camera makes, huh. I have been looking into a new camera and eyeballing a decent digital SLR like a Nikon or Cannon, but what a sticker shock! I have my old 35mm Minolta SLR, but film is too much work to post pics online with, and my 12 year old 2 megapixel point and shoot Kodak really isn't going to cut it much longer.

schweck - if we were closer geographically, either you or skip would be commissioned to finish up the body and do the decals. Today is NOT a good day LOL. I need to go get milk & kitty food in about an hour and I hope I can get there and back. You know it's a bad day when you can't even walk a set of stairs to do some engine work.
But hey, the sky is blue, the sun is out, God is good and CM has lots more bad days than me. I hope he doesn't mind me saying that, but there's a guy I really feel for and we all need to support each other; not just with words of praise for builds but with real fellowship. This site is so different from others I've visited words don't describe it. If you've got cable, take a break and watch some football today if that's your thing. I miss it and at least I can check scores through ESPN!!!

Good Morning! You'd think by now I'd have asked the admins to change the title to "Iaconia" rather than Glidden, but...
Anyway, Custom Muscle raised the bar with his latest T-bird pro stock/pro mod chassis build so as I was working on the Mustang last night I dug through my SLIXX stash and cut loose. Nothing crazy or anything that would contrast the markings on the box, but I did replicate some of the sponsors on the dash, tubs and batteries, as well as SFI and "Caution" stickers at the appropriate places. It doesn't show up much, but it looks nice!
It looks like any painting is indoors this week as it's rumored to be icy and cold today and possibly extend through the holiday. Well, more time for building as long as I don't ignore the family too much! Yeah, yeah, pics to come!

Looks great Mitch. The detailing is awesome. I hope your front end is tighter than mine was. I tried to put body on, and half came apart. It will get some major super glue applied.

thanks y'all! Hope yesterday and today have been enjoyable, both from food, family, friends and frollicking (well, you gotta have snow for the last one!). Owhite3: I did a prefit (unless my memory is failing) and the '66 Nova I suffered through taught me lots of lessons on how to survive it. I'm pretty sure I grasped the body from the bottom and pulled it outward cautiously to clear the firewall and tubs. I know it was with the front and rear clips glued on 'cause that's one of the 1st things I learned. Is yours done or still drying? I could try my test fit again and see if I have any pointers.
CM - I was thinking of visiting Lowes and searching out the tiniest zip tie for a test fit, but I doubt they'd have anything. I was going to cut tiny strips of electrical tape next. I'll try the thread.
Gonna watch Jim Carrey in "The Grinch" tonight hopefully!

Mr. Iaconia/Ford are sitting jealously looking down as I slave (enjoyably) over the AMT HOT ROD Mustang flopper from my other thread, anxiously awaiting a paint job and completion! An interesting downside to multi-builds as I'm finding out. I was so focused on this pro stock and really didn't get really enthusiastic about the Mustang until I started working on the blower and it just blossomed from there. That and seeing the Mustang pics CM added to the end of his Firebird pro mod thread. If anyone hasn't seen it, you really ought to check it out.

Hey gang:
'bout time for an update on this old ride. I've been waiting through a long cold winter and equally yucky spring to finally paint it and put up finished pics. Skip just blew me away with some really good tips on a couple different types of primer and the order to use them in, as well as using alky as a cleaning agent on the body, so I'm in a re-do phase. That means the Mustang flopper and the Shoebox Ford will also need reworking.
Since we don't have a general messaging system anymore, this will also help get the word out my hobby work is in a state of slow-motion right now. The weather has made my back, arthritis and tailbone pain so excruciating that even small trips for groceries or errands put me on my back for a day or two. The pain meds just aren't working, so I'm back in P.T. Everyone says it's an inoperable situation and so I guess I'll have good weeks and bad weeks. Chronic pain is a bunch of bull, but what can you do?
I will post updates of the body as I work through Skips steps of preparation all over and hopefully that will motivate me!
