Maybe if you spray a clear coat it'll lose the tackiness. I think the color looks good for a toon. Don't want to make it too realistic I'd say.

This is really coming along. Like the coax cable idea for the headers. Are you going to go ahead and use this first body you were testing with or are you going to still do the Vette body?

Looking cool on the header,you said you used coax for the tube,just how large are they.Maybe mesurement so i know the scale of what your doing

Once the clear cures it should seal it so there is no chemical reaction with the coax insulation, so you could probably paint the chromesilver again and be fine.
