thanks guys. up till now i have only done 2 coats of clear on things, had i known more coats would really deepen it/pop the shine i would have used more. this one has 5 coats on it, now i want to buff it to see if i can get the 'depth' i am after. i think i'm gonna be close. next one will be even better i hope.

That paint looks stellar tbill. Not sure I would try to do anymore to it, as I have learned that sometimes it's better to quit while I am ahead. But I know how it is trying to get one step better each time. At least you do have time to fix it right now if it goes south on you.

i hear ya skip, but, in an effort to better my skills/final product i'm going to hit it with a couple of meguires products and see where I end up. as usual with me, it's either going to be out of this world, or a complete failure I figure with 5 coats of clear on it, I have some error room to play with, and the stripes have 2 coats on them [which I will avoid like the plague when buffing], so I have a better than 50/50 shot at it looking better smileyCA9464IN_zpsd9ee499f

Your dizzy looks good tbill. Yeah those looms are tiny and can be a challenge. I use a magnifying lamp, the type with a 4.5" diameter lens and circline fluorescent bulb around the perimeter, so I can see what I'm doing. What a world of difference that lamp makes in being able to do small detail work.

thanks guys.
I hate to say it, but this kit sorta sucks. as I mentioned earlier the panel lines are kinda shallow [for what I am used to seeing in a kit], and on the chassis, the drive shaft is molded in. the interior is really going to be tough also. the mold lines for what should be chrome trim on the door panels is quite faint, and the door handles are pretty flat and just sort of an outline, unlike most kits that have crisp 'raised' moldings. it'll be a miracle is I can make the interior look good, and I still have not figured out how I am going to approach trying to foil the panels as the interior tub is one piece. if the door panels were separate parts it'd be a lot easier.
in any event, hope to get some more done this weekend.
