MAN! I am excited about this build! It's going to allow me to combine two things I've been thinking about into one model! First I read this article in Rat Rod Magazine.
It's a rat rod made from a VW Bug! As most of you will remember I cut a bug in half and used the rear to build a trike, the front half of this bug was tossed into the scrap pile along with all the left over VW parts.
After reading this article, I though it would be cool to build this using the front half of my chopped up body. I'm NOT building a replica here, just using this guys build as an inspiration.
The engine is something I'd like to build in 1:1 scale, but know I never will....Since this is a bit of an oddball car (but very buildable) and so is the engine. I thought they would fit together quite nicely. We shall see..... Evil_Laugh_emoticon

Okay after searching through a bunch of old plastic trying to find something to cap off the rear of the passenger compartment, I rolled my eyes and grabbed the rear of the 56 Ford that I cut off of my 50's ice cream truck! smileyCACETROO_zps365bb43e. It was too wide (of course) so I cut off the roof, then narrowed rest and attached it to the rear of the bug body. After the glue dried, I trimmed the top and shaped it to my liking.

Been there done that but GO FER IT! EDIT: Forgot to say, (I got to quoting BEFORE I went on to typing a reply!) NICE piece mail work man! A bit of body work no less, but it sure gonna look good when your done I can see it now! LOVE the "new" narrowed rear wall of the "cab" the outward shape looks to be dead on too! You have to modify that, OR was it like that AFTER you narrowed it?

You said it DeeCee - definitely a good reason to keep ALL plastic, ALWAYS! You just never know And this is turning out to be something really special man - I can feel it!!!

John, the rear section of the 56 ford fit the contour of the doors almost perfectly once I narrowed it! I will have to smooth them out a little if I decide to go "hot rod " with a pretty paint job. Right now I'm leaning toward semi gloss black.
Mikey, I've seen your engine build.....you are definitely NOT over your head. I want to build clean like THAT! hand-clapping-smiley-emoticon
Dale, Check out the next set of pictures. I was going to add a tunnel to the exiting floor of the bug, but decided that since most of that floor was gone already I would just replace the whole thing. I searched my junk stash and found the front half of a pro street chassis that was just right to use on this build! I think the only New parts are going to be the (mystery) engine, and the chassis/ suspension. Hope to get the pictures posted later tonight.

Thanks John! Thanks Dale! I'm enjoying this build! As I've stated at the start of this thread, I get to combine two ideas. First was to use a VW bug as the basis for a roadster type ratrod. Second was to build (in 1/25th scale) this engine that I wanted to put together back in the day....More to come soon! road-rage-smiley-emoticon
