Yes I would like to know about this also. I have very little new kits but a lot of disassembled builds.. Sundown asked - i know it has to be a new build but does it have to be a new kit or can it be a complete resto of an old kit. and when i say resto i mean stripped all the way down to scratch

My feeling is it has to be a new "build" meaning a resto would be fine. Look at my 64 Safari wagon , that was built from two already built kits. I do still insist that you post atleast five build pictures during the build month before you post the five finished pics. i know this seems like alot but it lets every one see how you build as well as the final product.

I have had some questions regarding this Rat Rod build and the definition of Rat Rod. First I want to say that it is my fault for not giving a better description in the themes section and I have no intention of pulling any builds from this months contest. The two people raising question do not have cars in the contest , but were just asking to try and head off any controversy . If you ever have any doubt about a theme google it and look at the pictures or better yet "ask the Judges". The theme was Rat Rod which a typical rat rod is made up of used , old parts that mix and match to create a rod ( 32 plymouth frame and ford t bucket body, a stop sign for a floor , a straight six out of a truck with seats off a John Deere Tractor ), a "Barn Find" would be any car that has been sitting in storage for 20 years or so and is dirty , dusty, and rusty just like it would look after you "pulled it from the barn" and then Resto Rods are barn finds that someone brought home and then replaced or rebuilt all of the motor and drive train so that it was new and currant while leaving the body and exterior looking like it did in the barn. So we have a few different things going on , but we will survive. I try to set the themes so that we have something to build at. It is so that when we are judging we are judging apples to apples and it is fair to every one, you would not want to compete against a funny car with a station wagon

I can see the confusion. My barn find doesn't meet the rat rod definition. Taking it out to avoid controversy.

No Ice I think we are good, I have explained to those who asked and in making the call i say we will judge what we have entered. In the future I will be more specific in my descriptions, but for this month I feel the closeness of these three themes are going to be ok

This might be a stupid question, but for the November theme "Muscle Cars", besides production "big cubes in a small - midsize car", what years are you considering a muscle car? 1964 thru 1974? 1964 thru 1987? 1964 thru ? ? thru ?

By most authorities it would be the era from 1964 thru 1974 thou some consider the high hp factory racers of the 60 to 62 years as well as some hit and miss cars in the late 70s and early 80s ( Mustang GT, Buick Gnx ), for our MOTM i would stay 1964 thru 1974 and I will add that to the description Good question Skip

This may not be the right place for this question, so I apologize in advance if I should post it somewhere else. I think that its wonderful that you have the MOTM contest. I was wondering, can we as members of the club, help contribute financially if we want to like a "kit fund"? That way the cost of the kit for the winner isn't always coming completely out of the admins pocket? I would be very willing to chip in a few bucks each month to keep MOTM going strong. Just a thought.

You sure can Jeff. Just start a thread in the MOTM section and we will move it for you to the right place after the MOTM for this month is done.

I think I know the answer, but might as well ask. Is the idea here to for everyone to build a model in less than a month, or can you take longer than that but just post the under construction pictures in that month? If I started now I might have the one I want to build for next July done by the deadline. :-) Thanks, Russ

Russ I think I can answer your question. Build it but save the pics until the month you want to enter. So in your case save those to your SD card or photobucket whatever you use and then post them in July's contest

Entering Julys MOTM means posting the "in progress" pictures in June, and the finished pictures before the deadline (last day of June). Hope this helps. AK

Man you guys are super !! ( wheaton and AK ) thanks guys !! Yes Russ , I myself have several models going at one time and I simple have a folder for each and fill them with WIP pics and Finished pics . then as the months roll around i lay out my wip pics and then before the deadline I post my finished. You can find a list of monthly themes under " themes" and build away. Also give suggestions for 2015 themes, we like to set them upp about 6 months ahead of time.

i have a new question...if a fellow addict had a build in mind that could be entered in two different months would it then be eligible for both? example; i have a build in mind that would cover both march and april. and after checking it also qualifies for august. how do the admins rule on this one?

Well let me do it this way. By the word of the rules you can build early as long as you take all the pictures but you can not post it on this site or any other site until you first post it here in the contest that it was intended. With that said once you post it for March it is no longer a new build. Sorry You can how ever use it for Bracket Racing. Sorry

I have a question about my April built it says only 2 wheel drive trucks. Would a nascar truck count? If not its no big deal iv got a couple 50's ford trucks

I am not admin so forgive me if Im out of line but I see no problem with a nascar truck. The theme states any truck anyway so long as its 2wd. Grandpa, please correct me if I am incorrect.

That's kinda what I'm thinking as well just want to be sure before I start that beast lol. I haven't built a nascar truck in years. What I can remember of the last one it was a pain.

I'm going to throw another part to this question. Is an El Camino or Ranchero going to be considered a truck for this contest?

Post by Grandpabeast on Mar 1, 2014 15:17:53 GMT -7
Yes to NASCAR Truck, Like was stated Any Truck , Any Way ! Yes to the use of a promo as long as you document the dis-assembly and the rebuild using a minimum of different parts it is then considered a "new" build Yes El Caminos and Rancheros are trucks
