This is not how my new year was supposed to start. This sucks but take it as a warning to any of you who buy on ebay
Over the last few days I have spent some of my christmas money bidding on models on ebay. On december 28th I won a 1975 Pontiac Ventura . Then on december 29th I won an 88 Dodge Shelby Daytona. I bought some kit parts ( junk yard ) on the 30th and bid and won a Rick Dobbertin Pontiac J 2000 pro street. Lastly I bought a new heating pad on the 31st.
Well usually I follow my tracking everyday and I have learned that sometimes packages go for a ride around the world before they actually get to your door so I wasnt worried when my 75 Ventura made its way to New Jersey. Then on december 31st I received an update that my ventura was out for delivery on the next working day ( january 3 ). I looked and was shocked that it was still in New Jersey. So I messaged the seller and asked why is it in Jersey when I live in Illinois ? He responded by saying , when he printed the shipping label it was for Willy Santausa 4 Taft Rd Totowa, New Jersey 07512. I immediately went to ebay and checked my settings. My ship to address had been removed and this , Willys address had been set as the primary. I called EBay and spoke with someone who confirmed my account had been hacked. He replaced my address with his. She blocked his IP address for his computer, restored my shipping address and helped me reset my password, but the damage was done . The Ventura, the Dodge and the J2000 had all already shipped. Looks like Willy is going to get some nice kits for the new year.
She said this seems to be a popular scam were they hack in and change the ship address to a random empty house and wait for packages to show up. Ive called everyone. Police, post office, ebay .......no one seems to care. Ebay told me the chances of me getting my kits was very very slim. She said for me to wait till all packages had been delivered and then I could file a claim but it could be months before I get a refund.
Tomorrow ( jan 3 ) I will be calling the postmaster in Totowa and see if we can halt the package deliveries but since he doesnt get in till 9am and the trucks roll out at 6am most likely the ventura will have already been delivered by the time we get this figured out .
Ill keep you posted as I get more info but if you shop on ebay make sure you check your shipping info every now and then as they do not send out any type of notice of change for changing your address.
