Hey everybody! You may remember me from Mel's Diner, I organize the cruise ins each week. While mopping floors after a cruise night, I had an idea for a contest and GB let me run with it. I took 4 different categories and put 5 subjects in each category. I then went to a site that randomly spit out an order for each one. So the categories are as follows:
What Kind of Vehilce?
1. GM Car 2. VW 3. MOPAR Car 4. FoMoCo Car 5. Truck
What Decade?
1. 1960s 2. 1980s 3. 1950s 4. 1990s 5. 1970s
What color?
1.White 2. Yellow 3. Green 4. Blue 5. Red
What add on?
1. Flames 2. Hood Scoop 3. Engine Swap 4. Lowered 5. Blower
So our contestants chose number combinations and I will now reveal your builds.
GrandpaBeast 3232 MOPAR from the 1980s, green with a hood scoop
CoyoteCrunch 4321 FoMoCo car from the 1950s, yellow with flames
sharp 5542 Pickup Truck from the 1970s, blue with a hood scoop
MidnightProwler 5354 Pickup Truck from the 1950s, red and lowered
Keef 1212 GM Car from the 1980s, white with a hood scoop
41chevy 1431 GM Car from the 1990s, green with flames

Love the idea, if you guys are going to do this way next year, i'll be in for sure
In my head i had 1313 and didn't want to jump in because i have a full list of build for next year, one of then is a corvette with an Engine swap, also a White color, that's crazy LOL, only diferentet this is the year i have in mind, i want to do a 67 vette instead of a 50's

Oops. I have no 50's pickups in my stash that I can earmark for being lowered. Can I do the 70's instead? I have a little Datsun pickup.

If you have a 55 Chevy Nomad, you can make a pickup out of that kit, if you don't have it i can send it to you but the one i have do not have the glass, so that will be a problem |

Before we start swapping numbers or themes, let's try to think outside the box a little. As far as the 50s truck goes, do you have a 50s car that you couod graft a truck bed to?
You can also look to your fellow modelers and facilitate a kit trade. I'll look through my stash, I may have something to assist.

I'm not in a financial position to do any trades right now and my materials and skills aren't really up to chopping parts and grafting. My hands also are far less cooperative than they used to be, arthritis in every joint of both hands. I've had to simplify many things. If swapping builds won't cut it probably best I back out.

I understand your situation, Im still looking for an 80s Mopar, but a year is a long time dont drop out now. Give me a chance to talk to JK and Mustang and see what we can work out.
We need to understand that Johnnys idea for a random draw was to get builders out of their comfort zone. If you look at my collection of kits ( almost 700 ) I have maybe 10 that are 80s and newer. Its just not what I build. So by randomly giving builders years, makes, color choices and body mods that they dont normally deal with puts everyone in the same pool.
Just a heads up , if we do decide to make a change ( since the other contestants agreed ) it would be for Midnight prowler only. everyone else would stay the same. Midnights number would change from 5354 to 5554 and we would be moving on. Let me talk with the other admins and see what we can do.

Much like GB stated, my goal for this contest was to do something different and take people out of their comfort zones. The codes were all chosen by contestants and categories randomly drawn. I'd like everyone to stick with the numbers they chose and try to think outside the box a little. I would hope no one decides to drop out, remember you have an entire year to put something together. I want to encourage you to wait until time just will not allow before deciding to bow out.

You know what? I completely forgot I have a 53 Ford pickup I can use. I have a 55 cameo but I definitely want to do that stock. Total senior moment on my part.

I wish you would wait and try to make something work. November 1st is a long ways away. I do agree with JKFlash , the spirit of the contest ( pick by random number ) was to mix things up, use colors we dont like, make modifications we have never done and build outside our comfort zone. What is the purpose of picking numbers and random draw if we just switch the results to something that works for us? I mean ,,,, do you have a 55/56/57 nomad ? Use the pickup roof to make it an elco ! Just think outside the box !
We all have our own personal stories but we are also all very good model builders. I encourage participation and I hope we all stick it out and do the best we can

Will be doing this, Pontiac ohc6, the chrome reverse rims from the AMT 36 Ford kit with narrow whitewall tires that are lower profile than stock, hopefully getting it lower. Color? Panther pink.  |

Ok guys, I finally made up my mind after five months and I'm gonna go with the 78 Dodge D100 pickup. Its gonna be built pretty much out of box with different wheels and tires and some extra details.  |
