My new project is The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Car also known as the Piranha/Super Spy Car by AMT. I read that AMT reissued this kit minus the licensing from MGM and the box art didn't have any Man From UNCLE pictures or graphics on it. The car will be painted with Tamiya TS-58 Pearl Light Blue with black seats and woodgrain on the dash and side steps. I built this kit man years ago as a teen and now is my chance to paint it and build it again and do a better job on it. The Man From U.N.C.L.E. will return...

One of the things I have discovered is that this tooling is very old and there is a lot of flash and parts fit is very poor. If AMT is to reissue this kit, then they need to update the molds before reissuing this kit! Updating the molds would remove half of the fit problems this kit has already.

Mike, If you remember. That kit didn't fit well when the molds were new! Good luck with the new one!!

pete, I was a child back when the kit was first issued. All I know is that I had a piece of U.N.C.L.E. history in my hands! It was assembled, but not painted since all I could afford was glue and the kit. My parents didn't trust me with paint. Joe, thanks! Let me see what I can do with this kit.

Mike, If you remember. That kit didn't fit well when the molds were new! Good luck with the new one!! We are talking about 1960's technology here! We were lucky to have as many model kits back then. Today's builder has much newer technology and the kits are more refined then they were back then.

I tried to wire the engine by drilling out the plug holes, but there is a small hump that had to be removed first before I could drill my plug wire hole. Once the hump was removed, I could drill my plug wire holes. Drilling out the distributor was a lot easier! I got the basic engine assembled, but stripping the chrome from the many parts for the engine has slowed my progress substantially. The Man From U.N.C.L.E. will return...

I use either the regular or the Fume Free Easy Off. Both work just as well as the other.

Now that the chrome has been removed from some of the engine parts, I can move ahead with assembly of the engine like the front engine cover and the oil pan and then paint. I glued the carbs to the superchargers and I drilled out the air inlets for the carbs and will detail them later. The Man From U.N.C.L.E. will return...

I started assembling the Corvair motor for the U.N.C.L.E. car and everything went well until I went to install the intake manifolds. There are none! I guess I shall have to improvise and make some based on the drawings provided and some research on the internet. The doors have been taped to the roof and now I can mark my slots in the laser beam unit for the new hinges I will be making from 5/32 inch styrene tubing. The Man From U.N.C.L.E. will return...

Guess, what I have just found...my intake manifolds! I had clipped some parts from the chrome sprue and placed them in a container with Easy-Off Oven Cleaner. I have just washed them so now they can dry and be painted.

I have completed the engine...mostly. I just have to reposition the plug wires a bit. This engine has fought me for the last 24 hours and now it is done! The Man From U.N.C.L.E. will return...

I worked on the UNCLE Car today. First modeling building I have done on this since painting the body on January 10th. I got the engine installed, front and rear suspension installed and the chassis cemented in place. I keep my hopes up, but this kit is a pile of doo-doo. The Man From U.N.C.L.E. will return...

I inserted the drive shafts through the transaxle and I found the driveshaft a little too short. I replaced the driveshaft with a piece of styrene rod that was longer and I trimmed the rod length to fit the wheels perfectly. The Man From U.N.C.L.E. will return...

Very nice! I forgot the roof was separate, now I have one as a convertible in my head to build. Paul

I have the same idea in my head as well! I have the the incomplete model sitting on the bench without the top on it and if I remove the upper door frames, add just the windshield frame and the lower doors, I could have a convertible.
