I was going to wait until I had finished my Stumptown Mustang GT to post this, but it's hot out and I really don't want to go outside. So here it is! My new project is the 1994 Ford Mustang GT Pace Car! I picked this kit up from an auction of kits belonging to someone for $5 and I wondered how I should build it. My build will be of a stock Pace Car and I have to go down to my LHS for paint to match the body molded in red. Oh Joy! More red plastic to cope with! I have a yellow SN195 Mustang that I built years ago for reference if I need it. More Pace Car to come...

I took most of the parts to the sink for a bath with a scrub brush and Dawn Dish Detergent and I placed them to dry in my paintbooth. More Pce Car to come...

I had a little time this afternoon before the thunderstorms hit the area and I assembled the 5.0 Liter engine. I even had time to drill the cylinder heads for plug wires. Now for some grey paint even if the instructions call for flat black. The dog had to go out and when the thunder clapped, he came running back into the house! More Pace Car to come...

Here are some pictures of my '94 Mustang GT Coupe. The Pace Car and Coupe appear to be the same ride height and assembly procedures. More Pace Car to come...

Thanks Grandpabeast! Yellow is easier to cover, but red is a b****! I found a white Ford hood scoop that would look great on the Pace Car. Do I pre-paint it red and them add it to the red hood and then paint the body and hood with a matching red to hide the swirl marks and join line?

Thats what I would do, if not the scoop and the hood will look like two different colors

I always cover red plastic with red oxide primer

Thanks Grandpabeast! I thought I might have to do that. Maybe primer everything with red oxide primer to give it a solid undercoat.

I've had good results covering Red and Orange with primer followed by Silver, so far no bleed through.

Thanks for the tip PT! I am aware of covering red, but I'm trying to cover white to match the red plastic that I want to paint red to cover swirls and join lines.

Thanks Joe! Yes, the 5.0 is a fine engine, but I don't think the 4.6 would fit anyway due to the engine's width at the heads.

Alot of folks have asked me why I don't LS swap an engine into my real life truck but hey.....why do that when a 406 small block generates as much or more power? AND is easier to work on.

Apparently the LS is the new small block Chevy. I'm a purist, too! I prefer an Ford in a Ford or a Mopar in a Mopar. Unless it is a big block Mopar in a Ford!

Yessir. The LS is now the go-to for alot of things indeed....and I've gotta say...they are one of the more simple engines out there these days and a ton of less money to modify. I'm with you though for keeping like engines with like cars/ trucks.
Cool lookin' Ford and a great powerplant to drop in there.

Thanks Joe! The 5.0 engine is complete, or I thought it was. Seems as though the ignition coil is missing. It wasn't in the kit so I guess I'll have to make one. More Pace Car to come...

Yes, a good paint job is second to none! I started this in August of 2022 and it's time to finish it!
