I read an article years ago about a product that you apply a gloss black coat and then the chrome and it looks really close. I'll see if I can find it again

Alclad is what JK is talking about. Works well but I've found it is difficult to clear to protect it. I have sprayed the Molotow Chrome from their refill container, seems to work okay. There is also a spray Chrome from Spatz that works well from what I have seen. All the Orange Crate chrome is Alclad Chrome and the wheels are Alclad magnesium. The cab the EDGCOMD Steels Autocar is all done in Alclad Stainless Steel.

I think I found a place M & M Metalizing . Its a little pricey but they offer a 7 day turn around and its brilliant plated chrome . I was told to make a 6" x 8" plastic square ( rectangle ) and I could put as much / many things on it as possible for 70.00 and then 30.00 for return priority shipping.
All the sprays and pens are ok, but its more of a shiny aluminum and if you handle it it doesnt look as good. This should be just like a good chrome tree from a kit so Im going to give it a try. Ill post pictures before and after plus my opinion once I get it back. In case anyone else has been looking for chrome plating .
These guys specialize in re chroming plastic automotive parts for restorations but he said this wasnt a problem and that no job was too small.
