Hi folks!
I'm brand new to this board, but many of you might know me from others.
I go by Goofy62 on some, and just by the name my mother gave me on others, Steve Guthmiller.
I live in a small town in Minnesota, just East of Fargo North Dakota, called Hawley.
I've been building models since I was somewhere in the neighborhood of 8 years old, (that would be just over 50 years now) and I love this hobby with a vengeance!
My main focus in building has always been basically factory stock, with the occasional mild custom or day 2 build, because that was what I remember and loved in my youth.
Being raised in a small farming community in south central Minnesota, I didn't see any hot rods or customs running around, so I have never had any interest in building them.
I have almost no interest in racing, unless it's 2 motor heads side by side racing between mail boxes on county road 32 east of town, So I don't build NASCAR, gassers, formula 1, etc.
My heart is with the cars that my buddies and I, and people that I knew drove every day.
Not necessarily the '75 Dodge Monaco wagon that my dad had, or the '78 Chrysler LeBaron wagon that my mother owned, but the cool stuff.
Over the past 15 years or so, I've fallen in love with the old annuals.
The subject matter in this hobby that you don't see anymore, and likely never will.
The Johan Chrysler 300s and Plymouth Furys, MPC Pontiacs and Dodges, etc, are what I really love working on.
Over the past 10 or more years, I was focused on simple restorations, but as time has progressed, I find myself really getting into completely reworking these old kits, and doing my best to bring them up to modern kit standards with complete chassis and engine swaps, as well as a lot of scratch work.
It's very exciting for me to take a kit that you don't see a lot anymore, that might have suffered from some pretty bad detail when it was produced, and try to make it look as good, or better than, what Revell and Moebius are offering today.
Anyway, thanks for having me, and I look forward to talking with old friends and possibly meeting a few new.
Steve
