Went to Kentucky last weekend for a Halloween Nostalgia Gasser race/party. I got to run my car but not as a gasser. Seems it does not meet the Nostalgia rules for a "traditional gasser.
Car was built in 1961 by my dad as a D/Gas with 283 stroked to 301, twin WCFB Corvette carbs, a Scintilla mag. feed into a GMC 3 speed with only 2nd and 3rd, a 1957 Olds rear with 5:33 gears and welded spiders.
In 1969 I bought from dad and installed a 427, 4 speed and dropped the gears down to 4:88 with spiders pulled the quarter eliptic springs and put back full leafs. I ran it from 1969 to 1974 as a C/Gas and from 1975 to 1993 as a C/MP. 1995 I went to a 1953 GMC 302 c.i. truck six bored to 320 c.i. with a 3-71 GMC blower. Spent most of the next decade racing at Hamptons Dragway, Deer Park Ave and the local Burger King in Bethpage.
I just parked it in 2006 until 2015. 2016 I took it out and added a roll bar, stiffened the chassis and added a 6/71 blown 502 crate motor with a Power-Glide trans.
As of 2019 it has a Speedway 632c.i. BBC with full roller set up, AFR heads and a 10-71 blower with a pair of 1500 cfm Holly High Flow carbs. Trans is one of the last Vitar Hydro's built in 2000.
Car runs consistent 155 /158 mph in mid 8's.
so here is the deal last weekend. The car is a legit gasser for 59 years, suspension and look is traditional early 60's gasser ( and scary over 130 ) . Their rules state that only a four speed is acceptable for a gasser so my car cannot be a gaser.
