I was just wondering , we we all do when we are not relaxing , building models or having fun ? In other words what does everyone do for a living? If your retired maybe tell us what you used to do.
I have worn many hats from college student to Army soldier. I have worked in ultrasonics, I have worked for the Chicago Bears, I have worked installing passenger elevators and make homes and buildings ADA compliant , I have been the director of Operations for a leading Call Center company, I owned my own business repossessing homes and remodeling them for the Banking Industry ,I have work for Valspar blending paint and currently I work at an Aluminum Foundry that is a 24/7 365 days a year company. I work 12 hour shifts 6PM to 6AM . We go from molten aluminum to sheets and rolls all in one plant. I make the rolls of automotive aluminum for ford and basically ever other manufacturer as they are all getting into aluminum and electric cars. We have been super busy the last four months with no sign of it slowing down ( we are thinking January or february ) Normally I work 4 days ( 48 hrs ) but we have been doing 60s and 72s since July. Inside building temp is right around 100 to 110 all the time. Its fun and scary at the sametime. we have a lot of fires due impart to the heat and the molten metal. Ill answer questions if anyone has any or maybe the next guy can tell us his story.

Woah, that foundry sounds like a rough place to work.
If we are talking entire history I have washed cars, painted cars, and worked security for a local professional wrestling organization. I currently own and operate a company that sells stairway lifts, elevators, and other accessibility equipment. I have been at that same company for 20 years now, hard to believe most days. I also bartend and do janitorial and maintenance for a private club/event hall for a little fun money. If anyone knows of any good drink recipes, let me know! I would love to add to my portfolio!

Had and still have drag cars. I followed my uncle, Herb Gary and built customs, hot rods and custom motorcycles from when I came home from S.E.A. in '72 until 2006. Got my funny car license in 1972, and also ran a pair of mirror image 1971 Challengers. 1 auto and one stick. Both 440 six packs. The stick was a cheat car with modified Max wedge heads. Both sponsored by Bayside Chrysler - Plymouth Had a few bikes win in the NYC Coliseum and appear in Easy Ride Magazine. One got the Von Dutch award for pin striping at the 1st Rat Fink Reunion. Still race my fathers original 55 Chevy. He bought it in 1962 I bought it in 1969 and still run it. No longer a 301 SBC, now it a blown Methanol 540 BBC. Since I retired in 2006 because injuries from a bad crash in 1980 finally caught up. Both my wife and I fish and take weekend cruises in the Chris Craft Commander she and I restored and I now build post Civil War rifles and pistols. Oh and get in my wife's way so she says.

This is an interesting thread as it's always good to get to know folks.
I started off Active Army from 87-95 as a UH-1H crew chief. I've had an interest in aviation since I was around 12 years old and that only fueled it even more which is why you'll see dang near as many aviation modeling subjects outta me as you will automotive. After I ETS'd from the military I started a career in automotive repair with my father and then moved on to GM dealerships as an auto tech for around 20 years. I managed to get Chevrolet Master Certified through the years and after maxing out on training I managed to get paid pretty good per hour. Problem with that is that people like that tend to get what ever every one else either can't or won't fix which means that it's usually all the scraps and doesn't work out very well pay wise. I got tired of that lifestyle after two decades and 8 years ago landed a job at a local refinery fleet where I became supervisor.....a job that is pretty cool despite some of the headaches.
Aside from modeling I love hotrodding and participate in that whenever my wallet allows and with whatever time I have left after all the honey do's. lol

Missed this one completely!!! Ive been a career trouble maker...A Mechanic (Cars and aircraft) Did the aircraft while in the Navy,8 yrs active duty. But, been building real cars (Started with my dad) since I was 10, Restorations, hot rods, drag race stuff (weekend warriors). Even managed to build a few while in the navy. Been building models since I was 5 (been competing on the show circuit around here for at least 25 yrs) Been a professional auto tech for around 20 yrs. Then did a half dozen years as Armed security for a local Real estate development/management company. (Over 8 million sq feet of retail and business properties) Lost that one due to Covid... I now do industrial powder coat painting and wet painting for Parker Hannifin's Inert Gas filtration division here in Lancaster N.Y.. LOL... I have been here for about a year...Ive had 4 raises and 2 promotions with this place. I like it here! I think they like me too . My wife wont let me retire and build cars for people for a living...She told me "laundering the $$ could be problematic" I don't know. Its a problem I wouldn't mind having I tell her...
