I am going to take a break from Jerrys Cherrys for a couple of weeks there will be no july contests. I am considering shutting it down. Any suggestions ?? We are getting zero participation . with almost 650 members , I am the only one who has built MOTM and three month contest cars. We only get three or four who participate in BRotM . Right now we have three votes in the final race...3 votes ! What is it? and what do we need to do ? I dont know of any other group that gives out prizes and I belong to several groups. I see many of our members building stuff on other groups but yet not participating in ours. I just dont know what to do. I actually spend a lot of time involved with JsCs but am I doing it simply for 4 to 6 members ? Would love to hear feedback either email or on the site but Im going to make a decision by July 1

So sorry to hear this Dave. I just want to say I really appreciate everything that you do for JC's and hope that you keep it going.
Just a suggestion, how about we do a contest anything goes and not worry about the gift cards. I think that might be fun.

Ill think about it. The gift cards are not a big deal. I personally belong to several model sites. I dont build or compete in their contests but I do like to see what people are building. Several of JsCs members belong to these sights. Month after month, contest after contest the are building, competing and voting. So far this year with the exception of one month I have been the only one to build in MOTM. Ive also been the only builder in 3 month builds. The only contest we have participation in is BRotM and that seems to be the same four or six guys. Those four or six are also the only ones who vote. This months final for BRotM had 3 votes. We have over 600 members. I am able to see who visits the sight everyday, I see who comments and I see who votes. I feel that for some reason no one wants to build or participate.

Dave,
I understand your frustrations, but I also don't want to see you shut down the forum. I really enjoy the forum and its members. I would hate to see it go away.
In my opinion, the prizes could go away. They are nice but completely unnecessary. I build for the enjoyment of just showing my work to you guys. Also the themes on the contests are restrictive at times ( ie I don't build customs or Cadillacs so those two categories rule out my participation for those two months. However I still follow and try to vote on those months I can't enter.)
We are also just beginning to recover from the COVID pandemic and that has a lot of people getting out and doing other things not related to sitting in front of a computer. I am going to retire at the end of October, and that will give me more time to participate in MOTM and three month contests. However, I still think some of the rules on these contests are a little restrictive. Maybe a little more open format might help.
I don't know, or have all (or even many of) the answers, but I also know that I really enjoy this site and don't want it to go away. I just wish I wasn't working and could devote more time to to building and participating on the forum. Maybe after October I can get more involved (if the site is still around).

I'm hoping you don't but I understand if you do. I rarely post in process stuff as my modeling time is very sporadic, especially in the spring through fall months. That's another reason I've only done one 3 month build. Even when I do get time to build, I rarely focus on one subject exclusively, I dabble here and there, its just my building style. I literally spent every waking moment Friday through Monday memorial day weekend either looking online or going to look at and test drive cars for my wife. Plus 10 hour days at work, yard work that consumes 6 plus hours a shot to do, household chores, it's hard to find time to breathe.
I would really hate to see it go.

First off , let me thank you for responding ( Sharp, OldCoyote and MidnightProwler ). Im hoping more join in and this can be a sort of discussion . My apologies JsCs has its own email but no one has ever used it. I have notifications but I dont remember the pass word. So let me respond to some of your comments and then we can go from there. This is sort of a perfect example of what I am saying. Since I sent out the Email and Posted the same here. We have had 13 members log in . None , until you three have commented. !. I dont see the gifts as a problem, I dont mind doing it. We started doing it several years ago to encourage participation.We figured if there was a chance to win a kit or a gift card more people would build here. But thats not the case. I see several of our members on other sites building kits month after month for their contests. 2. I realize covid and time have been issues for some people. For the last ( going on 10 years ) I have worked in an aluminum foundry, 12 hour shifts ( 6pm to 6am ) , 60 to 72 hours a week mandatory OT . Im 57, if thats not tough enough, I was divorced august 25 2020 . So now I do everything around the house. I know how tight time is. I guess thats why the lack of participation bothers me so much. 3. We have MOTM, BRotM and Three Month Builds. If that doest give people enough time the can build ahead. I am currently building Novembers and Decembers MOTM now, you just save your pictures until its time to post. 4. I dont expect anyone to build every month but come on.Since January 2021 I have been the only builder in the two Three Month Builds and the Only Builder in every MOTM except one that Sharp participated in. 5. Its not just building , noone votes either. I can see who logs on, who comments and who votes. Its no fun to win a contest 2 to 1 ! With 600 members we should atleast be getting 50 members to vote. 6. The rules , if we need rule changes then hey we can do that. But let me say , every site I go to is just like ours. I dont see any open build contests. Probably for the same reason we started doing it. It is super hard to vote when your not comparing apples with apples. Someone takes the time to do all the wiring and plumbing on lets say a funny car, highly detailed but because most dont use the voting sheet , He loses to a curb side build with no detail but an awesome eye catching paint job . So thats why we have themes so at least the cars are somewhat similar. 7.  MOTM Themes 2021 by David Keim, on Flickr I posted the themes for MOTM and Three Month Build . Where as it might say build a Ford or build an AMC its pretty wide open in that you can build any model anyway you want. That would include funny cars or drag cars. 8. personally I dont get it. Maybe Im burned out. Maybe its time to let it go or shut it down. Maybe start a new club. I really dont know . |

You make good points Dave. I'm not really going to argue with anything you said. In the long run, I really do like the way you have run JCs. It's a marvelous site and I truly enjoy you and the other members . As I said, I would really hope that the site continues.
I am 74 years old and facing up to three rounds of back surgery starting next Friday. But I will continue to log in and participate as much as I can until I retire at the end of October. Then I should really be able to participate in more areas.
I truly thank you for all you do in keeping this site up and running. It is a pleasure to be here, and I do hope it continues in one form or another. But rest assured, I will back you in whatever decision you make.

Maybe we should do a roll call. Email all the members and invite them to log in and say hi. Those that don’t we will delete. Also maybe I need to clean up the site a bit . I’m not very computer savvy but I can try. What do we do about the contests ? Drop them ? Drop the prizes ? Change up the build times ? Drop the themes ?

OK first to old coyote hope all goes well for you and a speedy recovery.
Dave...hard for me to build but i will give a go. who knows maybe get a few accomplished. as for a role call other sites have done that and eliminated people. also i think theres a way to tell when last logged on. i know covid screwed up a lot of things plus most of us are older modelers with issues. also do we need a hosting site for photos cant remember. my words dont come out like i want like i said had medical issue. but i try.

Halfbreed , thank you for taking part. Yes I realize not all of us can build a new kit every month or even every three months. This is why bracket racing is for already built kits. I guess I’m just looking for participation. Our members come to the site. I see who has been here and when. But they don’t do anything. People enjoy getting comments on their builds . I know I do. As far as voting . If five guys enter bracket racing and then we get a total of eight votes. When we get to the finals ( like this last month ) only three voted. Is it gratifying to win 3-0 or 2-1 . Wouldn’t it be nicer if it was 31 to 19 or 27 to 23 ? I love this site , I enjoy chatting with the members and seeing their builds. But something has happened. Other sites have great participation, yet we seem to be a club of 8 guys and even then not all 8 build or vote. I just don’t get it.

Here's my feedback of random thoughts. I am probably not tech savvy but I do find this site rather confusing and hard to navigate. Seems whenever I am on here the voting isn't open or maybe I just don't know how.
I might be able to figure out posting pictures. I'll give it a try maybe just copy and paste the url from my online image hoster?
I have been in the past very short on time to devote to my many hobbies. That has recently changed as I am apparently recently retired. (walked out on my 12 day work week with a few 12 hour days job. Financial advisor says I'll be fine from now on out anyway)
I am somewhat intimidated by others beautiful builds. I am probably well out of my league. But I have fun...
I have a very limited scope of what I build. Chevy only. And mostly stock passenger cars with an occasional pickup so the themes would be pretty hit and miss for me.
None the less I do enjoy this site and will try to make more of a contribution to it in the future....

Qwerty57, thank you for your feed back. Im not trying to be an ass, but have you read any of the rules ? Example if the click on MOTM , choices pop up. Themes - well thats the themes for each month for this year. Rules of the Show - well they answer most of your questions.But I will be updating them. Ask the Judges - sorta self explanatory, if you have a question you can ask. Work in Progress - this is for your build pics . Show Cars - would be your finished pics. Cast your vote - its where you vote. Winners and Contestants
No need to be intimidated, we are really a decent bunch. We all can answer questions or help with a tip or two. I think we would all agree its not about winning or losing its about the comments, and the likes.
If you look at the themes for 2021 MOTM - feb any convertible built any way, mar - any gm built anyway, april an truck built anyway, june - any 4 door built anyway , aug - box stock , and theres more. Also Three Month builds ( which is part of the MOTM themes is pretty open.
I find that most people who have a hard time with the site, sorta rushed in and tried to hit the hot spots and got lost. I always encourage new members to take their time , start at the top and work down , there is a lot to see and do.

I’m with the rest of the folks who do not want to see this site go away. I like the atmosphere and the contests. It’s very difficult for me to build in one month or even 3 month builds as most of mine take in the neighborhood of 5+ months to complete. I’m finishing up with an aircraft build right now but my next one will be Round 2’s new re-release of the 67 Mustang Fastback. That one will definitely be posted here. Will make it a point to post more often to your site here Dave. Thank you for all of your hard work in keeping it going.

I dont have many builds left as I sold most of them except a few I really wanted to keep. But I will try to get in as many as I can. Hopefully with building new ones as I can see whats coming up and build accordingly.

I have enjoyed coming to this site to browse, build, learn, and encourage others since its inception. I am a moderator and was asked to help run contests. I gave it my all while I could. I don't want the club to completely disappear. I am not a member of any other model car forum on the web. I felt like this site had some of the greatest builders, most helpful people around. I totally understand taking a break and coming back. I just want this around. I don't have a ton of extra time to give these days, but will assist where I can. Let me know if I can be of help.
