Ours began with spending the prior two days cleaning the house, shopping for supplies and getting things in order as we were hosting a party for 25 friends and family. Our house is 100 yards from where the fireworks are lit off and on the parade route too. Everything went fine. Great parade, food prep done by the wife, grilling done by me. 30 cheeseburgers, 25 pounds of baby back barbeque ribs, chicken kabobs, and some salmon for our vegetarians. All grilled and all good. Then after desert and coffee it was everybody out in the yard for the fireworks. Sounds great huh? It was until that moment.
Some of our guests had to leave, distractions with people leaving, trying to clean up, and nervous dogs. Everything settled down and the 25 minute firework display was awesome. THEN it all went bad. My 89 year old mother tripped in the yard and fell. Bumped her head, cut open her leg, and broke her wrist. Had to call 911 because there was over 5000 people around my house blocking the main road heading home. On the way to the hospital my brother calls me. His wife had 360 dollars missing from her purse. Between the stress of following the ambulance to the hospital, screaming on the phone with my spazzed brother, and being exhausted it was a bit overwhelming. About 2am we got home and went to bed.
The next morning it only got worse. Calls came in. Another guest had pain meds lifted from her purse, my ex wife who was at The party had her credit card missing from her purse, my wife had her credit card missing from her purse. Lots of phone calls, lots of yelling, and the fallout that is left. NOT a great holiday this year. Crowning this was not getting my pictures bashed by p bucket reposted from Flickr to my bracket racing thread. Bummer.
