I'm going to do another Land Speed Record car, instead of another unlimited, this time I'm going to the other end of the spectrum and start a K/GS, aka 500cc streamliner. Only have to hit 203mph for the record. Old record is 28 years old. Naturally aspirated, 61cu.in. on gas. Sounds about right. I'm claiming to use a 2-cylinder, 2-cycle, 499cc, Rotax 494 with WAVE heads, producing about 115hp on gas. But it will really be a curbside model. I acquired a two piece solid resin copy of the AMT LSR go kart many years ago. I decided to make a styrene vacuum formed copy of it out of 0.040" sheet. I joined the two halves, and slowly sanded down the seam joint.

One reason that I never finish anything, is that I can't leave well enough, alone. Totally reshaped the cockpit area and made a canopy buck. Then I added a fin to help aim the short wheelbase car, at over 205mph. really looking interesting. isn't that why we model though, make things better. make things more realistic. make things impossible to finish. I hear you 100%. I probably wouldn't finish an out-of-the-box build!! remember when we could throw them together in a day....

I applied some pearl white paint to it just before work today. When I got home tonight it has a cream tint to it. Rats.

Had a few painting mishaps and repaired the paint stripes as best that I could. I think part of the problem was that the metal flakes were wider than the stripes, and would pull off with the tape. Repaired some spots three times with varying results. Added home made decals. The class markings took forever to make. Added some air intakes and an exhaust pipe too. Here it is with a 1/25 scale driver. Here it is on the salt with my Eagle One unlimited LSR.

Would you believe Craig Breedlove, go-kart pilot in 1961? A whopping 16 cubic inches of single-cylinder Standun produced an impressive pass of 93.84 mph, but no I/Streamliner record. The next year he ran his first jet powered Spirit of America at 407.45 mph.
