yes it is a viper motor, thanks all for the comments. fit really well too, just a little trimming of the trans tunnel and of the engine motor mounts and it fir like a clove. even the headers fit inside the frame rails.
I do need some help. this willys is going to be drenched in fire red paint, it will have leather color interior, I want to come up with a color for the motor to make it stand out. I was either going to go with silver or be a little daring and paint it prowler purple. what do you guys thing, any suggestions. the only color out is yellow. I just think that would be too much.
just a little bump in the road. there has been more progress on this 9YIPEE), but we misplaced the cord the goes to the computer to download pictures. so photos will be delayed.

Paint that motor to match the color of the interior. Would be a contrast, yes. BUT - at the same time would be picked up by the eyes as appealing, because it matches

no problem. funny thing is I have never had an AMT willys. I have had plenty of the old school revel willys gassers though. neat kits.
did a little more work on it last night. want the body to be really smooth, no body lines, panel or trunk lines, so I spent 5 innings of the Tribes game sanding the body, then I covered the from the doors back in putty. will sand it all down tonight. got 5 different shades of tan/leather out for it. have to pick one. and again thanks for the idea, Tom of painting the engine interior color, but I think that will not happen. I just can't have a tan viper engine. I am still leaning towards purple. if not, it may get painted red with chrome valve cover accents and a matte black intake.

That is an interesting combo mate, nice ! I am not sure about mixing red with purple though, i think they clash, and don't look right together. (just my opinion mate). A gold engine would look sweet with somw silver and chrome on it, especially if you go with the tan leather interior, keep the colors to a minimum unless your going wild on the outside.

I know it's me, but I don't think I can do a gold engine either. will have to see it...... see, this is the stuff that will make me throw it in the box and bury it for a few years. the viper engine was originally red, so maybe I will paint it red with the mat black intake, silver/chrome headers, aluminum trans and silver details. I am breaking up the sea of red with the tan interior, so maybe that is the key.

Don't know what happened with my attempt to reply with a quote but it didn't work. I know what you're saying about chunking it back in the box and wanting to bury it. That's where I find myself a lot of times on a custom build as well. Not only is there the struggle of trying put what's in my mind with the plastic but a lot of times I get stumped on the decisions regarding the direction of the build as well. And sometimes the build tries to tell me where to go. lol

HEHE... I hear you loud and clear. my problem is I am a very bad decision maker. I have soooo much reference info, it's ridiculous. plus my mind is always thinking.... and then it comes to painting... the Devils work.
sometimes the Devil is in my computer. it's NEVER my fault... hehe

I really have to find my cord for my camera.....
well, it happened, couldn't leave well enough alone and I cut the hell out of the hood last nite to reshape it. after I did, I am not just if I like it or not. just didn't like the looks of the front peak of the hood sticking way up in the air, so I too my dremel and just cut the front 2/3's of the hood off. we will see where it goes. just for backup, I got another hood out of the parts box to prevent me from throwing it in limbo.
