Friends
My latest attempt at building a model has gone south after starting to look good. This was the breaking point as far as me being a model builder. I have tried to build models my whole life and improve each time, but that is not the case. I have gone the wrong way and there is no since in me wasting my money on something I can't do. I want to thank all of you for your friendship and support. I will drop in from time to to time to see how things are going. Please do not try to change my mind because it ain't going to happen, my heart is no longer in it.

Im sorry to hear that. We all have something we are good and bad at. And this hobby is no longer cheap if your satisfied with it it can be hard . I know i have not liked my work lately and that is why i never post anything. So i can understand what you are saying years ago i used to build a lot for shows now it gets very frustrating and lately i have had more fun casting so i have been doing alot of that with good success so when things dont go right in building i do some casting..so i hope you can find something you like and are good at and really enjoy. Best of luck to you and hate to see you go.at least you know they always make you feel welcome here one of the best groups i have ever found . Rocky

I hope you reconsider. Its like golf, not all of us will play the masters but its still fun to get out have a beer or two and bang that ball around. Maybe just a break or ( and I dont mean to patronize ) but ask for help. I do it all the time. I will ask for help ( in the Help thread ) or even message a member directly and ask "How did you do this?" or How do I do this? I myself have been weighting giving up the competitive end ( I just dont think my builds are good enough to win any more ) but I still take joy in building. Lately time has been a problem but if I eliminate dead lines then I really have all the time in the world. Just think about it. And remember there is always a parking place here at JsCs for you.

NOOOOO - DONT GOOOOO!!!!
tosouthern, (Tony I believe it is), you do not have to worry about the quality my friend, this hobby we have is more of a relaxer than anything. I myself take such a long time to complete a build, I rarely make any contest deadline. But a few good friends helped me along, and gave me some great advice. Try building a pre-painted model, do nothing extra to it, just go box stock. They build quick, and you get the satisfaction. Just take it easy, let the builds come to you my friend. I sure hope you give this a try, it just may help - it did me!

GB Thats just it, it is no longer any fun. This last attempt wasn't fir a contest or anything. It was a getting back to basics to correct my issues. 1st problem I incountered was I used the wrong grit of sand paper on the plastic and primer. That hurt but didn't stop me, I tried to correct it. It didnt come out great but it was ok with me. 2nd problem cane when I went to reclear the clear looked good till it dried. Thats when I decided I'm done, it turned out milky and pale. Same can of clear that i used before on the model. There are other things that I have stepped away from that I love to do but I know I can't go back to doing them because they became no fun. If I can't have fun at something that I am doing then there is no use to keep doing them is ther? Thanks again all, I'll be checking on whats happening here and there. Thanks again

If milky clear is the only problem mate, lightly block it with one of those sanding kits, and then polish it, that should fix it Tony. If you are pulling away, DON'T throw anything away, you will regret it, stash it in a corner, because one day.... you might get that niggle to try it again, and if you do, please, like you have been doing, drop me a PM again... smileyCA9464IN_zpsd9ee499f

Friends
After lengthy discussion with Dale and someone within the local club. I have decided to give it another go. I do not know if I can take any more failures/set backs at this point. The current kit that I am working on I am just going to finish it as is and move on. I am not happy with the issues that keep kicking me in the backside and don't seem to get any better as I go along. Some people say my builds look good but to me they don't look as good. I know we are our own worst critics when it comes to our builds and I am no different. I want to thank all of you for your support and kind words.

Just keep in mind. Whether you are a pro builder or a rookie builder, they all run into the same problems from time to time. Bad paint jobs go in the tank so they can be stripped, broken parts get saved for maybe future use, missing parts get replaced, bad builds go into the "junk yard" where parts can go towards a future build. It happens to all of us. An you are right we are much harder on our selves then any judge. I recently was telling IceMan how my confidence was slipping because age was starting to catch up with me. My hands shake, my eyes are not as good as they use to be and time, simple trying to find the time to sit and build, it is all very hard. The thing to remember is take your time, all mistakes can be over come, go easy on yourself, have fun ! We all go through it, it happens to all of us and if you need some help, a part or two or maybe a question about how someone did something just ask. We do a great job of helping each other here at JsCs

I've been running into a lot of issues lately too. Mainly involving paint and missing parts. Sometimes what I do is find a snap together kit, custom paint it, and throw it together. Sometimes just finishing a kit makes you feel like you accomplished something and can move forward from there. The bottom line is, don't throw in the towel just yet.

All I can say is stick with it! I started when I was 8 and I'm 52 now and actually took a few years off and now I don't know why! Set backs are common trust me. I once bought 3 kits just to get the paint right on one of them!!! Just remember were here for you!!!!!! Stace

I was unable to find any of your work. So without knowing your skill level, here's just a couple points. Forgive me if I'm off the mark.
One, mishaps happen. Do what you have to, to soldier on. I have dipped more bodies than I'd like to admit. Paint is the bane of every builder. Two, have the basics of clean model building down before you try advanced techniques. If your box stock build isn't clean and smooth, then your custom work will be even worse.
So knowing your skill level is the first step, and accepting it is the second. So many people that have left this hobby have done so because they couldn't build at the level they wanted RIGHT NOW. And that's not the way this works. This isn't just a hobby like fishing or weekend softball. This is ART. You might not think so, but each of these models is a small sculpture. It's not any less so because it comes from a kit. And like any art, it takes practice. You either have the patience and determination to become an artist, or you don't.
I really hope you continue to build. Please feel free to shoot me a PM, if I can be of any help down the road. Be well.
