I do believe I'm going to be moving at the end of June. Was wondering if anyone had any pointers on moving box after box after box of unbuilt kits? Lol not sure about plastic totes . that would take up a hole moving truck I do believe lol And really not sure about moving my already built kits every other time I'm moved I always end up scratching them up or just breaking them. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Mike I went though a move last year. Fortunately very close but I still packed all of my kits up. The large moving boxes is the best way to go. You can get 24-30 regular sized kits,in there. I got mine at Home Depot. They do take a lot of space but I refused to fold up the boxes. It was well worth it though. No problems there.
With the built kits, it's always harder. If you have them in display cases, I have a couple of recommendations. 1- take out the kit, put it in a ziplock bag and wrap it with bubble wrap. Use enough so you can barely put it back in the display case but not so little to where it jumps around. Wrap the display case as well and box them.
The other option is to still wrap the built kits the same but box the, by themselves. Then stack the cases separately.
End of June? I recommend start packing now. Lol. Take your time. And I hope you've reserved a nice working area at the new place.
Good luck with the entire move.

Thank you sir.. I'm also only moving something like 11 miles up the road it's just the thought of it lol I hate moving but it's a lot nicer place. Going from a really tinny two bedroom apartment to a big three bedroom house with lots of outside storage space in a couple sheds plus lots of privacy more then I can say about my current apartment lol so definitely going to have more space for stacking kits up. Just kinda lighter in the billfold.

I agree with Ice on everything he said.
If you want free boxes, go online to www.usps.com
You can order all kinds of sizes of boxes, and they are free, the Priority Mail ones. I do not know if they still carry them, but I got myself a crap load of priority mail, regional rate C boxes, they are huge, and hold lots of kits and diecasts. They also have other sizes as well. Just log in, you will probably need to register, (that's free), then go to the free shipping supplies area. All kinds of boxes, great sizes for models, and some bigger ones. The really big ones, called ready post, those they charge you for. I would stick to the free, priority mail big regional rate c boxes. If I remember, you could order like 25 at a time, of each size of box. They come pretty fast too.
But other than that, yep - Home Depot or wherever for moving boxes. Always check like Walmart for boxes they have not flattened yet, they usually let you have them for free.
usps link for shipping supplies, so you can look them over:
store.usps.com/store/browse/subcategory.jsp?categoryId=free-shipping-supplies&categoryNavIds=shipping-supplies%3Afree-shipping-supplies
For still sealed kits - no brainer, get a big ole box and fill it up!
For opened kits, if they are still in their boxes, buy some cheap sandwich bags, quart size and gallon size. The sandwich bags are great for the windows. The quart size are good for body parts, and the gallon size is great for the body. Then repack in the original box, grab a regional c box, and stack away.
For already built kits, like Ice said, use the gallon Ziploc bags for these. This way, if any parts come loose, side mirrors, bumpers, etc, it's all together in the Ziploc bag.
Then using either the display case, or the original box, pack with bubble wrap. If you do not have a ton of bubble wrap, (like Ice and myself always have from our eBay stores), you can use newspaper, shredded is the best if you have a paper shredder.
If they are not in display cases, and you do not have the original kit box......
Priority mail shoe boxes work great as well for packing built / opened kits - link below:

You might check any U-Haul Rentals that's where I got all my boxes when I moved , should have a few different sizes moving boxes . The ones I used ( medium ) holds 18 to 20 normal size kit boxes And if you don't use all you buy they will buy them back from you

I moved all my kits once, i wrapped every model in bubble wrap, and packed them in boxs, about 3-4 deep, the only damage was the occasional bumper or mirror where the glue had give way. I have solved that problem now, I AM NEVER MOVING AGAIN..

When I moved (and I moved a couple of times), I used the kit boxes and soft tissue paper to wrap the models loosely in, sit them in the box and fill the sides/front and back with some more paper, and stack the boxes. Worked for me.

Thank you sir unfortunately I don't have the boxes to all my built models anymore. So probably going to put them in zip lock bags and surround them with them little shipping peanuts.

Careful with the shipping peanuts Mike. They car/truck will move right through the styrofoam pieces and still hit the sides of the boxes. Bubble wrap is the way to go. Good luck bud. I had to move 3 times within a one year span a few years back and I hated it every time.

Each time you stop for coffee, food, shower, scales, whatever - grab a few of those free trucks for sale papers thry have in the truck stops. Makes great wrapping paper, and the price - you just can't beat - FREE

Sweet thank you for the pointer Tom. So is it bad my pile of plastic is now taller than me lol I stand 6'2 and it's got a couple feet on me lol but on a positive note all my unbuilt kits are boxes up and accounted for. Figure once I get moved I'm going to separate them all in different classes and decades before restocking them.

Not bad at all that your kits are taller - shoot, My hobby rooms have columns, floor to the ceiling, and the garage has big boxes like yours, floor to ceiling as well.
Nope - not bad at all, if anything, kind of overwhelming, and yet an awesome feeling at the same time!

The last count, from last fall, I had over 400, I would bet I am closer to 500 now. That's just the sealed collection
smiley-scared002 smiley-scared002 I would venture to say close to 80 or 100 opened / complete kits to build first.

UNBELIVABLE - NO DOUBT

But I now live on a gravel road out in the middle of nowhere so we will see lol. And yeah I'm burnt out on unpacking lol but luckily I've been at it pretty hard the past couple days so all most have it. I think tomorrow after my direct tv guy leaves I'm going to unpack my unbuilt kits want to try and actually have some kind of organization with them this time around lol
