Saturday I dropped off my models for the annual MAGS model contest at the SE Streetrod Nationals in Tampa FL. That night I caught Duran Duran w/Niles Rodgers and Chic. Great concert, both bands just killed it. Sunday I popped back at the model contest to chat and for the awards ceremony. I won second in the MISC class for my Pacer drift car, got the People Choice Award for the theme class - Customs, for my '49 Merc Pirate Rod, and won Best Paint for my weathered '49 Ford patina rod.
So, all in all a pretty good weekend. From a compedative standpoint now though, only one thing remains to be won for me. Best In Show. As I spoke to the winner of BIS, the judges came up to us and said that my pirate rod was neck-in-neck with the model that did win, it was his superior finish that put him over the top. So I guess I'm going to have to learn how to polish out a paint job. I have tried a few times before only to ruin the paint on a corner or edge and get frustrated. If anyone knows any good tutorials on Youtube, I'd appreciate it. My penchant for using decals will also be an issue. I've ruined two paint jobs lately when the clear over the decals wrinkled the decal, so I haven't been clearing over them since. I'm gonna have to figure this out.
