Welcome Mitch. If you like building models you should surely like this place. Oh, and yeh, the guys here are really swell, just don't feed any of them after midnight, we don't want to have to go through that experience again.

Well Chris, if you must eat just don't get any water on you. Remember all the little fur balls that popped out of the skin and across the room? It was total mayhem for awhile after that.

Wow! Thanks folks - great welcome. About me - 56, married to a wonderful woman for 14 yrs, avid guitarist with a penchant for hair band rock, 2 sons 10 years apart. I build nostalgia funny cars and top sportsman/pro modified (so far). I've only be back to modeling after a 45+ year layoff! My only memorable childhood models were a TV Tommy Ivo digger, a Tarantula FED digger and a well intended start on a 1:18 (?) scale Don Garlits rear engined dragster that never got finished.
Right now, I just finished a Revell Jungle Jim Vega F/C with a few added touches: sanded slicks, Vertex alum magneto & wires and home fashioned fuel line from craft hemp painted silver with red/blue anodized fittings. I'm 90% complete with an AMT '66 Nova which required an Ebay 2nd body since I severely botched the 1st. This time I bought donor stock from a '55 Chevy Pro Mod and used the ignition box parts, fuel cool can and a twin air bottle/battery pack which I fashioned into a twin NOS/battery section where the rear seat went. I built my own 6pt. roll cage and added a couple of high backed NASCAR type protective seats. The interior is flat black with flocked carpeting (courtesy of my wife).
It's painted Testors One Coat Mystic Green, but shot in mists then wet coats. I'm ready for the clear coat but nervous as I don't want to screw it up again!!!
Any, sorry for the novel but modeling has lit my drag racing fever again. I used to race locally but degenerative disc disease has robbed me of my mobility. That's why I'm so jazzed by being able to build 1/25 scale replicas of my hobby. Anyway, I see a lot of hot rods on the welcome page, so do most builders here work on '20's through '50's cars? I'd love to try and build a chopped top rod with 3 deuces, moon hub cabs, and a nice primered paint job. Or a 40's Willys; you know, something like the kids drove in the B&W classic "The Giant Gila Monster". Thanks for the welcome and I hope to learn a lot here!

Hey Custom: I used to race a '93 Mustang Hatch at 75/80 and Mason/Dixon. You're in Fairfax, right? I grew up in Vienna, VA and in the 70's Fairfax, Oakton, and Reston were my stomping grounds. I had a '68 Roadrunner at the time and we'd pull into a field, light a bonfire and pop a keg. No more for sure. I can't even find my way around Rt. 29/211 or 50 or even Reston anymore.
I'm building the "Jukebox Ford" top sportsman after Christmas and hopefully will be done in time for my Revell '55 Chevy Streetburner pro mod around May. I think after two warm-up models, I'll be ready to do a photo step by step of the build including the mag/yellow ignition wires and MSD control boxes I got off Ebay. From what I've seen on the boxes, I think both kits have nice Lenco multi-shift levers and quite a bit of detail. I'm really a blower guy, so I might buy a resin pro-mod blower motor and try my hand at resin and detailing it to go into the '55!

Thanks for sharing all that, Mitch. The resin you see hot rods on the banner right now is because the MOTM and races were for rat rods this month. If you wish to see any specific category, talk to GrandpaBeast. He's been updating categories to make sure we visit everyone favorites. Can't wait to see those WIPs.

Nope I am out in Southern Cali near the old Lions Dragway and Pomona Dragway where they run the Winter nationals. My Icon pick is my 71 Torino Cobra with a built 460/475hp I run in G Stock auto and she doing consistent high 12's in quarter. I can afford to go much faster than that too much breakage at faster speeds ha.

Custom - that's an awesome Torino. Nothing like a big 460 to jump Coke cans! Any thought of going with a Mity-Mite converter? Maybe it's not them, but I remember a company when I was big into racing that custom built converters which were bolted instead of welded so they could adjust the vanes for stall speed. My best run ever was a 10.80 @ 128 with a junkyard 5.0 and a h/d Powerdyne blower. I went to Vortechs after that, but tried to save money with my P-dyne brackets and there was too much flex for the belts. The trans changed to an Art Carr custom AOD with a transbrake and it was nice, though it would only 60' around 1.50. Way too slow. It was a top end monster though.
Your car looks beautiful; my favorite color scheme, shaker hood (?) and clean!

Yep Shaker Hood..been trying to sell her just need the money so no more moods right now. I have no idea what stall she has but she's doing 1.82 60ft with 3:50 gears!! 9 inch rear c6 trans auto with shift kit hurst speed shifter. She's ideal street/strip car. Heck I drive her all the way to Vegas race all weekend then drive her home(about 3 hr drive). Every thing electric, fuel, water, fans, never gets over about 195 heat wise no matter how long i'm sitting. I really hate to sell but I got backup. All orig 1970 RED GT Torino 351-4m only 33,000 orig miles. she's my baby !! THEY'RE BURYING ME IN THIS ONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Incredible! I have to agree with Wheaton, I prefer the cherry red one just for aesthtics. Although everyone would prolly want it completely bone stock, I'd slip a Ford Performance blower on that bad boy for some tire boiling torque at low rpms.

Thanks Mr O! I just typed a novel and fat-fingered it, so here's my 2nd try. I've already made some good friends here and gotten good info on painting. Assembly and creativity don't seem to be a problem for me; it's the painting I struggle with. I use shaker cans and have no dust proof painting room, nor dehydrator that can help. I'm seriously looking at an aerosol kit with several nozzles and that will let me use acrylics. My understanding is acrylic paint is easier to use, thin and can be removed easier if body stripping is required. Good to meet you!

I have the same issue. I live in Texas. I have looked into making a dehydrator. Basically a box with two light bulbs at the bottom as the heating element. I live in an apartment so it's not easy getting stuff done on my balcony.

It's going to be mighty tough to shoot paint this fall/winter for me being in VA. My garage will be useless and the wife hates the smell if I paint in the basement craft area. That's my only option, so your idea of a dehydrator sounds perfect. I use a real Sears dehydrator in the basement, but there's no source of heat. I'm thinking now that once I shoot a coat, I'll move the car in front of the dehydrator and use an uncovered light bulb as a heat source for drying.
