Well lets see. It was the same car used in Two Lane Blacktop, but the motor could have been changed. We know it was 62 and to the best of my knowledge no big blocks existed. In some scenes you hear the whine of a blower, but that could also be a gear drive. That whine is also heard in Two Lane Blacktop, but that car I believe is a big block tunnel ram dual four barrels. I have an old car magazine that has articles on all of the Graffiti cars when the movie came out. I will dig it out and see if we can end this mystery......aye Scoobie !

WELL I WAS CLOSE HERE'S WHAT I FOUND "The Ford Coupe driven by Paul Le Mat's character had a 1966 Chevrolet 327 cu.in. engine. The black 1955 Chevy driven by Harrison Ford had a Chevrolet 454 cu.in. engine capable of doing 11-second quarter-mile times."http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069704/trivia

Though the research I dodge before building this model I know at least 2 of the 55s from Two Lane Blacktop were used in American Graffiti and they had big block engines. However since AG was set in 1962, these engines would not have existed. No mention was made in American Graffiti as to what Falfa had under the hood, but it seemed to be accepted that the car was wicked fast. Im thinking that perhaps it could have been a 409 since that was the biggest engine chevy made at the time, or a supercharger or something. I did considered putting a 409 in this model but chose not to since it could not be verified as "correct". Hey custom, maybe Ill run out and buy a NOS kit and install it then come lookin fodder ya...oh wait, that wouldn't be period correct either! AK

I doubt ole HOLLYWOOD was worried about being period correct they just wanted a go fast car. I'm betting the movie car had the 454.

GAWD, nice chat you guys! But in the Chevy years, I think you could have gotten a 409.....That was started in '61 wasn't it? IT was, looked it up See: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Big-Block_engine#409The "409" was a big block, dated from '61 to '65....They also have a 427 "Z11" that was a "W" head motor.....RARE but it was made! From my days in working in a garage, as a teenager into my early 20's, I know one thing of the good ole "409". you got one of 2 things... you either got a strawberry motor, or you got one that was damned near unstoppable! Hence the Beach Boys song "409"......It got to the rating near its life end in '65, to reach the same horse power of the famous Hemi 426, the race? beaten by the 426 Hemi due to ability to high rev, and not go into "float" mode in the heads reaching the sum in and or around 9,000 RPM's..... Last I knew the 409 could keep up tho, it couldn't rev as high but went like a pissed of wolf no less! Take a race guys, see who wins LOL LOVE the engine chatter, from a buncha model building guys! GREAT model no less too, LOVE the work done to it, (I am fond of the GM 409 even tho), I'm a Mopar guy.....
