I have been doing some internet searching and really like some of the resin bodies out there. Anyone have any tips or tricks or advice on them? Is one manufacturer better than another? Are they worth the price? I saw one today for $60 and thought it would be cool, not sure about $60 cool

Resin bodies are so cool. Sometimes expensive and sometimes you get lucky and find them cheap. It really depends what you're looking for. $60 for me is a big purchase. What resin body are you looking for?

I would ask about the specific maker and kit/body you're looking at buying. To me Jimmy Flintstone resin is pretty low on the list for quality and I would avoid it for your first. His bodies are always 2 times thicker than they should be and require quite a bit of work to get to fit properly.

The expensive one was a 79 Malibu that would have worked well with the El Camino I have that is missing grilles. The other was a 2010 mustang van that worked with the revell snap tite kit.

Is the 79 Malibu a bandit resins body and the mustang a Flintstone? Of so, I'd get the one from bandit and see how you like resin before a Flintstone Of any kind.

Make sure the resin body comes with a hood! I have a couple of resin bodies, but none of them come with a hood, and it will be the last time i ever waste money on a resin body. The next thing is, make sure you have the correct donor car. If you don't, the price just went up. Windows are a problem if you buy something that is chopped too. I find the money you pay for a resin body, ( $60 is just obscene ) AND a donor kit, it works out expensive, that is why i chop and change my own bodies so much, it is more satisfying to create it your self too. Good luck, but even Flinstone bodies need a LOT of clean up, personally i think resin bodies are cr@p, and a massive waste of money for the amount of work you need to put in, just to get a good finish.
Disclaimer: This is just MY opinion, i know a lot of people love resin bodies, but i would not waste another $10 on one, the most disappointing purchases i have had in 30 + years of modeling..

After looking again, yes the Malibu is a bandit. It looks like it comes with body, hood, dash, seats front and rear, grille, front and rear bumpers, and frame. That one costs $60. The Flinstone is only $18 but it is just the body.

The more bits you get, the better off you are mate, $60 is still quite a load of $$$$$ for half a kit though, even down this end of the world where the average kit is $40-50..

It looks like you'd only need the clear parts, tail lights and steering wheel. Engine too. You won't find a kit that's close to this so resin would be the only way to go. Bandit resin is way better than JF. The thickness is very comparable to plastic.
I personally don't have the skill to cut and chose like DC does so I buy (collect) bodies that I hope to build one day. I've learned that most of the time, the most expensive, the better the quality.....most of the time. When modelhaus comes back one, check to see if they have what you're looking for. If you're willing to spend the money go with them.

I still may buy one to try it out. Some of those resin cars out there are really neat.
