This is the first of many things I plan to be scratchbuilding in the near future. Started today with these two pairs of leaf springs. They are for a Gasser Chassis I have and want to build up. I have some ideas and some tips on how to do these and want to hit a new level. Drop axles, straght axles, hedders, ladder bars, add on back and front frames. Plan to be building many of my future builds using this stuff. I hit a chord on Gassers. I think I want to build one like no other now. Anyways, here is the springs. First of MANY!!

I'm planning on building an Austin gasser (I have a resin body) for the August bracket race and definitely want to make my own springs. I've seen a couple of different ways to make them but your's is the first I've seen all plastic. Nice work!

Thanks for the nice comments guys. Adding on to this is getting mounting points, creating front spring mounts and rear shackles. This chassis is an MPC 57 Chevy flip nose parts with no nothing, just the frame. Good platform to build a Gasser. Not knowing what is going on this chassis is kind of cool. Who knows what could end up on this when its done. I marked the areas I wanted the springs to be and began the process. First was to make the front spring mounts for both front and rear springs. I used H channel evergreen plastic and worked it to the desired shape. Then I applied trimmed down small Evergreen tubing for the eyes on the backs of both the front and back springs. I have some small wire pins that will be used and trimmed down when the springs are installed. I used the same evergreen strips that I used on the springs to make the shackles. Sized them as I wanted and drilled them out. This is what I have so far. Next is to paint and assemble this and see what it looks like.. Thanks for looking. Chas.

Thanks guy for the kind words. Springs are just the tip of the iceberg. The spring mounts have to be made too. Shackles are not that hard but a bit of a pain as they are really small. I'm fabbing up mounts for the axles for the leafsprings to rest on and shock mounts today. Made a second set of leafsprings today for a Road Runner Chassis. Started to make the front spring mounts also. Going to make a highboy Mopar. Kicking it around in my head and going to be making my own straight axles. Also, guilty of not remembering names(sorry) but one of you made mention about 4x4 springs? Have a LRE chassis that I plan to build my own suspension using the stock rear end, transfer case, and perhaps driveshafts (unless I can find something + shaped, then I will make my own) and everything else including the front axle will be scratchbuilt by me. So front axle, all 4 leafsprings, tie rods, steering box, linkage, mounts, shocks, and maybe driveshafts I will be hand building. This is due to parts not being easy to get and sometimes expensive to buy having in some cases buy a whole kit just for a part or two. I'm going to be making hedders and exhaust systems too. Just tired of searching for stuff, besides. More fun to make it myself. Maybe the next set of springs I can do a tutorial on how I make them? They are pretty easy!
