I've been having meetings for the last couple of months for something I just felt I have to do. I'm really happy to have now been accepted to help the 2 refugee families from Syria that will be getting settled local to me this summer. I just felt it was something I had to do so they don't feel like the world has forgotten them, and so they know somebody really does care about what is happening to them. For over 18 months the news has been filled with stories about innocent people being killed, tortured and vilified by the tv and print news, and while so many news stories are about how bad they are, and how they just want to claim benefits, I can now be in a position to help these unfortunate people, for which I am proud. I am in no way religious, I just cannot stand by and see people suffer when I can do something to ease it for them. It means I wont have as much time for my hobbies after june, but the warm feeling in my chest will make up for that. I dont think I will ever be able to understand the lifes they have had recently given how terrible it has been for them, but being able to offer something as little as friendship just seems like the right thing to do

You are, without a doubt, a truly AWESOME person. Thank you for standing up for others, when they cannot stand themselves.

Well done, if only we could all help each other, what a world that would be.
