Thought I'd start on this one while the Mustang is being stripped. It's a good test situation for the Createx paint I've been wanting to try. This is the regular Createx, not the Auto Air.  Primed...  Createx recommends a .5mm needle and 45psi. My compressor tops out at about 40psi. It sprayed very nicely out of the bottle...nice and smooth. After two light coats I decided to experiment and spray a much heavier coat than I normally would. Looks pretty muddy, with the details obscured. The paint stuck well, though, and there was no dripping.  After drying it looks great. The details popped back up nicely. Color is nice and rich...better than it looks in the pics. I can see no particular advantage to a heavy coat and will continue to use lighter coats.  |

The kit is very simple. No engine, dash or suspension. At least it shouldn't take long to build.

Now I do want one, is the hood a regular hood? I ask because as a teenager, I had a Gremlin for a spell. A faded blue one, with a milk carton for the passenger seat!! Always wanted to make that car - man do I still have some fond memories of running around with my high school buddy in that thing!

The hood has a cutout for a fake engine top, which you can see on the bottom right corner of the chrome tree.  Flat black will be applied in the style shown below. For now, though, I'm dead in the water. Couldn't get anything to spray today, and after some experimentation I'm pretty sure it's the compressor. I have a new one on order, it's supposed to get here on Tuesday. What am I supposed to do until then?? smiley-confused005  |

Paint job looks great!that createx paint is awesome,I use it all the time! Some of the craft paints I've used look just as good, but they have to be thinned, and it can be a bit of a nuisance getting the consistency just right. I sure like being able to spray right out of the bottle. That alone may be worth the extra dough. |

Will it spray if you thin it a little bit ? 40 psi is quite a bit of pressure.. 40 does seem like a lot. I tried it at 30 and it also worked fine. I'm wondering if they recommend the higher pressure to increase atomization of the paint? |

I have quite a few bottles of the Auto Air that I'd really like to use and I've seen some of you guys' paint with these and I like. |

The white base sprayed great right out of the bottle. I believe it's a bit thinner than the color. What size needle are you using?

Worked for me, should work for you. I'm guessing you have a better airbrush and compressor than I do.

I have a Grex setup. But I've know of guys doing more with less. I tested last night. Nothing sprayed right out of the bottle so I did thin it down almost 3:1. Here's s white base coat and here's a pearl color.   I think I have it figured out. |

The Easter Gremlin! smileyCACETROO_zps365bb43e OK, here it is with the (should be) final coat of clear coat. It's got a pretty good reflection already. Whenever I manage to do something halfway right I'm very tempted to leave it as is, being afraid to screw it up by doing something else to it. The clear coat has a lot of small imperfections though...I'm not sure why. Anwyay, I remembered that I have a painted Avanti body from a kit that I decided not to finish, so I'm going to practice sanding on that.  |

Het Sid, good idea on practicing, but I think you would be safe to maybe start with a high, smooth grit, say 8000, lots of water. If you have those Testors pads, those are great to get wet and lightly sand. Do maybe just a quarter panel, then feel with your fingers, if the rough spots are still there, drop down to 6000, if they are not there, advance all the way up to the 12,000 - then polish and clear - just a thought bud. You are WAY more advanced than me anyways, as I have yet to "grow a set" and actually paint with the gun. I have been spraying Future. But I promised a good friend here to start painting with it

OK, first mistake. I didn't let the heavy clear coat cure sufficiently, and it sloughed off a bit when sanding. It may be fixable. I'm going to let it sit until it feels fully cured, then re-clear coat it. If the damage is too severe I'll strip it down and start again. I realize that I didn't follow Dale's method here. Still experimenting. At least I'm not feeling discouraged. (That's me on the left.)  |
