This what these guys got me using, has been working for me everytime. Sometimes, I need to let the piece soak for a few days, lightly scrub and wash, and maybe re-soak and repeat. But it does not harm the model, and has always got the piece back to original plastic, or dam near close to it, good enough for sanding and primer.

I also use Purple Power. Used to use brake fluid but Purple Power is a little more environmentally friendly... I think... Purple Power also doesn't make as much of a mess when using it. I have discovered that I need to use gloves when stripping paint otherwise my hands break out really bad.

I havent been in the hobby too long, but for the most part I really like Super Clean. Its basically a slightly better (Original?) version of Purple power. Ive had it work most of the time at stripping paint and primer. If your stripping something that has auto paint on it, it will take a day or two before it can penetrate. It should come off easy after that, just a little light brushing. It can be bought by the gallon at walmart.
Ive had one instance where super clean did not work and im still fighting it. I think it was just a bad choice of primer.
You can also use 91% alcohol, Brake fluid, and Easy off oven cleaner.

As an added bonus, this is what one of my bodies looked like after about 48hours in Superclean The body is fine, but the paint just slide off like mud

Where can you buy this Purple Power? Wal-Mart, Dollar General as well as others depending on where you are.

Yep, I purchased mine from Wal-mart, I know it can also be bought from most auto parts stores also. Its good stuff, its always been my go to stripping medium. the down side is you end up with a lot of paint at the bottom of the container and the solution gets darker. I've been able to strain the paint out with a plastic cup with the bottom cut out and some coffee filters, but it still remains pretty dark. here is what the bottle looks like here is what that same model looks after soaking in a bath of soapy water for a day, and then clean water for another day. results are not always typical, I had a hell of time trying to get this one stripped, I ended up just cleaning it up as best i could and reprimed over the old

I've found something that may be of use to members in the UK. It's a oven cleaner called fairy power spray, and comes in a squirty bottle. It has been recomended on one of the uk rodding forums (rodsnsods) and I am trying it before I put the truck tailgate in brake fluid. Thia stuff can be used inside too, and has much less nasty niffs than aerosol/spray cans of oven cleaner. Kinda annoyed too, I spent a good few hours looking in most of the shops in town, then it's the first thing I see when I went to the local post office today. Am I the only member that gets modelling supplies from the post office? (not delivered but purchased, lol)

But if it removes the bulk of the paint, that's fine. I use caustic soda, pretty potent though. We don't have purple power down this end of the world..
