Maybe I am being a little dramatic but I have a question regarding interior and exterior paints. How do you guys choose your paint combos? Normally I try to build my models as if I was building the 1:1 cars. Also, do you find yourself painting more of one color? I have this thing where I don't want to have too many models of the same color displayed. So far I'm doing ok with that but today I had this idea that I am throwing around. Would just like a little input before I go through with spraying these cars.

I like to vary my colors as much as possible, but if I find a color I REALLY like, I will do another one with it a few months later, but just try not to make it the same style of car. Also, sometimes changing up the base color can give you a different shade aswell. A lot of my builds are based around 2 colors, sometimes as an accent to the body color, then I will do the interior that color, just as long as those colors work well together, but I refuse to do an interior or engine a certain color just because that is how it came from the factory. This is my turn to make it look good, that's the rule I go by mate.

I agree with DeeCee 100% To me, what the 1:1 car is doesn't mean a thing. Modeling, to me, is all about building what you want to, the way you like it. I always use colors I like and different colors on the same model, when I can, is fine as long as they don't clash, or in other words, don't go together well. They should compliment each other. I also use the same colors on different builds, just not right away. Modeling to me is all about having fun, being creative, building the way you like it,and, above all, Having Fun.

Thanks for the input fellas. I have made my decision on the models I am working on and will just go with it. Hopefully it's not blasphemy to paint a Ferrari something other than Ferrari red, lol!

Modeling to me is all about having fun, being creative, building the way you like it,and, above all, Having Fun. boy, this is a subject that actually carries over into the 1:1 world. there is another site that had a thread going on, "was model master plum crazy really the right color?"ever been to a 1:1 show and saw just how many variations of plum crazy there are? some people who build models have to get it dead nuts on. for instance, the Yenko Camaros only came in 6 colors. I was talking to a good friend/model builder/1:1 chevy enthusiast and I told him I wanted to do a black yenko.... blasphemy!!! you cant do that?!?!? why not?
in my humble opinion, modeling as well as 1:1 is very individualistic. build what you want, how you want. but you will always have to deal with the critics. there are builders out there that will try to get it as close to factory stock as poosible right on down the the number of pleats on an interior panel. (yea, this happened to me). but to them, building this way is fun and I will never tell someone that that car never came in that color. it's their choice the people that ruin it are the ones who will tell you that. telling you your model is wrong.
last little side note; a vendor refused to sell me "road runner" emblems for my car because I wanted the ones that stuck on (the volare era) for my hemi runner. he wanted to sell me the ones with the post on the back of it, yes they were the correct ones, and were also 4 x's the price.
