There are so many kits out there to build great looking hot rods. The 32 is one of my favorites. I've built several and most of them, I've been extremely happy with. Although some kits lack detail, here is plenty of opportunity to kit bash and I prove the look on most.
What are your favorite ones and why?

Ice, What do you call a Hot Rod ??
I call a Hot Rod any car/truck that has had an engine/tranny swap and is street legal two-thumbs-up-smiley-emoticon You can go from the 20's to modern to make a Hot Rod but may be not so much from 2004 on up cause the factory has done it already. My fav to hot rod are the 50's and 60's cars/trucks, WHY I don't know cause I just like those years smiley-greet016

Your side of the world seem to call anything modified, a hot rod, this has me buggered with the definition myself. we here in Australia call them hotrods, up into the 40's, until the fenders became part of the body line. But that is just us.
Myself, i prefer the late 30's, very early 40's, a lot better lines to me.

Ok. I guess I stepped right into that one. Before the thread gets too long, I'd like this thread to be about traditional hot rods. Late 20s, 30s, 40s, maybe early 50s.
And I agree DC, some of this big name guys call their cars hot rods, and those modern cars are not what comes to mind when I think hot rod.
With that being said, let's talk about those kits you like.

36' 37' ish would be my favorites, the longer rear end, with the style i like to build, they can look long, fat and low. Also love the 40 ford , sedan delivery, don't know why. but i have done a few of those.

I like all the kits but my preference is the 39-40's. I do have a plan for a 38 I'd like to build but they don't seem to be out there

Excellent question. I recently saw a bit of an early '50s film with hot rods. Back then they were relatively plain with few visible upgrades to the engine. What we think of, clean, custom paint, chrome on the engine and nice interiors...those were few back then. For me, if somebody says "rod" it's pre WWII fer sure. In the '50s '60s the lighter cars of the '20s and early '30s were for rodding. As they became more pricey, the later "fat fendered" cars became the rods. I guess that how it's always been. Thanx for the question.

Was hoping you all would be a little more specific The 32 Ford has been a kit that has overpowered my stash since I got back into building. I have more of these than any other kit. Way too many. My favorite one is the AMT Vicky kit. Its been released a couple of different ways: Original circa 1960s Iron Lady Vicky (pictured) Vintage Fire Chief Jalopy Stock Car (AMT & DTR) The re-release Lil Viky (pictured) I have a couple of the older ones and it lends itself to so many option and variations. Even though the chassis leaves something to be desired, with a little extra time and patience it can look pretty good as well. I was stoked when it was re-released a couple of months ago. Hobby Lobby saw me very often getting those at least once a day with the coupon I will tell you though, the Revell 1929 Model A Roadster that just got released looks like it'll top the 32. I already have plans to go to hobby lobby at least twice a day this coming week to stock up. I read a recent review by Tim Boyd and it includes pics of all the parts. I recommend readin it through and through. There are so many parts you'll have left over after building either of the versions that this will be a great go to for engine swaps & parts for many traditional hot rod lovers.

Ah I miss understood the question. I have a few revell 32's and have only opened the one which turned out ok but I found some of the fit a bit awkward. With the 40's I have an AMT sedan and the Lindberg coupe I built, and another coupe on the way but cant remember who made it. I would say the AMT is much better than the lindberg kit for the body mouldings as the linberg seems to be a lot thicker plastic on one side and a lot of the details on it were very faint, while the amt is crisply detailed and has a much better chassis. Maybe the Lindberg kit should be a level 1 compared to the AMT kit but thats just my opinion.

In that case, it would be a 41 Willy's street rod, it would be the ONLY kit i have purchased that i did not see a need to modify it. It comes with a beautifully detailed Hemi, great frame and suspension, cool interior, just needs a couple of mild tweeks to change it up. Every thing else is just the "same ol, same ol" to me, just a different box and wheels, ready for the knife..

Think I'll go ahead and get it.
