Glad you mention it man. I had been meaning to tell you guys. Yes. I read that somewhere also so I headed over to my nearest one. I was there too late. There were tags of kits as low as $5.96 but there wene't any left. Everything that was left was regular price. Maybe you can still find some in your area.

I think they do that to move some of the older stock. I have never seen them as low as $5.96 but I do see a few $10 and $12 kits from time to time and it is a select few. I did notice that here in the Quad Cities the Moline WalMart store sells models and supplies, but none of the other WalMarts in the area. The last time I went in there everything was marked way down. I bought a couple paint pens for $1 each and I saw all the kits were around $10. I think WalMart may be getting out of models again, the kids there don't respect anything and spray the spray bombs everywhere in the store.

I know what you mean JK, the only Wally World in our area that carries them, does not have paint anywhere. Just jars. Plus they want like 20 bucks for them - nope, not gonna happen. The only Michael's we have close is on the north side, and we do not get up there too often, we did have a Michael's here on our side of OKC, but they closed like a year or more ago.
I just stick to Hobby Lobby and eBay as a rule.

It is looking like they are not going to carry them. The same with Michaels around here. I think the last 4 months I have been the only one buying them . Around here there does not seam to be any interest.

I know what you mean xcrewchief, wally world here does not carry them, one of them does, but mostly just the pre-painted kits. ALL the little hobby stores that were here when we settled down here have clean vanished - disappeared from sight. The only option left is Hobby Lobby, which ain't a bad option, just the only one. There is the flea markets, but that's hit and miss week to week. It's a shame, such a great patience teaching hobby, but with everyone looking down at their technology these days, well, you know. My wife and I do try to get the younger generation into hobbies. We volunteer monthly at the children's shelter here, and a lot of kits that I buy, mostly open kits, I take with brushes, paints, the works and once a month go down and usually have at least 3 to 5 boys that will sit for the day to build along with. My wife takes the girls to another table and with beads, trinkets and string and all sorts of tools, she shows them how to make jewelry. It's hard though, because each month, it's usually different kids, so you never know if they finished their projects, or if they will maintain in the hobby, but it is one day a month that sometimes you can get a kid's eyes to lift up, look around, smile and learn - instead of nose planting into a cell phone.

LOL - huh?
Nah, just doin our part to try and get kids these days to realize there is so much more to this world than a freakin cell phone, LOL Plus, most of these kids have been through some hard times, so to try and lift their spirits, even if only for a few hours, makes it worth it.

I saw the same thing on a friend's Facebook post, but he had a picture up as well What I did is save the pic & I called a few different Micheals & spoke to a manager if he would match the price. One of them was cool w that & he matched the prices in the pic because they were marked higher at that store.

In my local area the michaels has got rid of almost all there plastic models and brought some metal kits in at very very high prices and wally world has got rid of all there models they have been selling off somewhat cheep I have bought all they had that were any good and last week I went to check it out now they have nothing Nota zip all gone no plastic. I.am so glad I am moving what is with all these people they don't understand how the world revolves around plastic. Ha ha makes me want to go get another injection molding machine. The problem there is machine is cheep tooling is unrealistic to have made and Im not good enough to machine it all myself we need a bunch of builders to start a manufacturer club were we all go I and start making our kits great idea all we need is about ten million members we can do that right ha ha again. I hope this is OK to say if not I am sorry but my old saying is ( there is no such thing as gravity the whole world sucks ).

The 2 largest chains that carry models, Michael's and Hobby Lobby, do have occasional close out reductions. Both chains have reduced variety of model cars and trucks and dropped Tamiya and other Japanese vehicle models. The military area still seems good in variety, a puzzle to car builders. Here, Wal*Mart and Toys R Us haven't carried models in years. What we can do best is support stores selling kits since they are the main buyers from model manufacturers. Without them there would be no e-bay or model convention sales. Retail prices are high, and it seems unfair, but they accurately reflect the lower demand as people have left model building as a hobby over the decades. I guess what I'm saying is demand from selling products creates a healthy model industry. If you can pick up bargains there, great. It all shows support for the hobby.
