I want to use real dirt. How do I apply it and get the right areas and also not overdo it? Reference pics with instruction appreciated.

I've never done this before but maybe some white glue on spots of the body then sprinkle a little dirt on it.

I have done this once, for the Harvick raced version car I did. What I did was taped off the driver half of the windshield, to simulate that half was clean from the tear offs, then from a distance, spurted some clear flat, and also some of the undercoating for our 1:1 cars. Also spurted a touch of tan in the air.
For dirt track - I have not done it yet, but I plan to. This is what I though to do:
First, get some dirt, and mash it good, making it sure fine. Using some googled reference pics on where the dirt usually gets on the cars, position the finished build just right, maybe slightly raised, whatever. Take your finely ground dirt and make a small pile next to the build. Then, spurt some flat clear in the area you wish to dirty up, then take a can of compressed air and blow your little pile of dirt at the car. Could also just spurt the flat clear behind the pile towards the car. Gonna be a learning experience, but once I get to that point, I will post what I am doing in some WIP's

I have an article from an old fine scale modeler, I'll see if I can dig it out and post it here. I know part was using an old stiff bristle tooth brush to spatter paint/mud on a model car.
