Now, I know we are all plastic fiends!!
BUT, I also like to attack die cast cars. I have a huge case of these plain white police cars I got a few years back. Some I sell on eBay, but most I will build to replicate our local police department. We are in pretty tight with the PD here, and for our officer friends, I like to surprise them from time to time with a replica of their cruiser.
And let me just say all this crap going on in this country lately concerning our local police force is BULL!!!!!!
I am not saying there are not BAD cops, but as a rule, 90% or more are good people, and I for one commend them for what they do. Day in and day out, the have to deal with, put up with, and actually have to treat fairly the "Dregs" of our society. They put their lives on the line for us daily, and they sure as crap do not get the respect the deserve. I say, to all those who are so down on their local cops, how about we do an actual PURGE - like the move PURGE, where for 12 to 24 hours, everyone can do whatever they want, lets see how fast they stay down on the cops then, people just do not realize what these officers go through. Take a local citizens police course / class sometime, not only will you learn what your local cops are up to, but you will gain a ton of respect for them.
OK, enough of my rant, I put aside the Camaro, (windshields are drying anyways), and the Coronet so I could knock out a die cast replica for our friend Ron. He is a local Sgt, good friend, and he is also the one we coordinate and run the car show each year with - (this coming weekend by the way - WOOHOO!!) Anyways, they are pretty quick to do, once you have everything made, of which I do - so here is what I did last night and this morning, will be working on this more tonight and tomorrow, should have it done sometime next week, in time to surprise Ron with at the car show next weekend.
First off - a few pictures of an actual cruiser I used to make decals, and know what to do to replicate... This cruiser was Sean back a few winters ago
These are the die cast cars I use - same model, Impala - 2002, but they are close to what they drive. Whenever I can find newer ones, I will be stocking up for sure
Tear em down, mostly just screws, once they are apart, things pretty much fall apart pretty easily
Taped her off, and sprayed the car where it will be black. used regular old Krylon metal paint from Wally World
Use good old fashioned magic markers on the under side of the light bar - got the blue and red on, now I will apply the yellow light decals I have made to the inside to finish
These are the decals I have made, made them all quite awhile back. I have everything from lights, car / badge numbers, etc. If you notice the actual car pics, I have the City wording made, city emblem, all the lettering that goes onto the cars. I even have in red - K-9 Caution decals, (have already made one for a retired K-9 officer and his dog)
I even have the scale screening, (if its a K-9 car), and small laptops. I have different decals for the laptop screen I will apply. Will find an old tree sprue, will trim to be in the shape of an L, and will get this glued into the interior. The first picture of the actual cruiser shows where this laptop sits in the car. I also have some resin donuts in a box!! Gonna throw these on the passenger seat - Ron will flip! Thinking to try and make the box look like Krispy Kremes!! Ha!
More to come once I get her decal-ed and cleared. Then it will be onto final assembly, which will include, (hopefully), a nice display stand
