Working on this for my sisters birthday. It was supposed to be a model of her own mini but due to folk being ill and the amount of changes that would need to be done, I won't have it finished in time, so it will just be a stock mini. Her birthday is on friday and I only got it started last night. More updates later once I get some pics taken.

I've been so tempted to buy this kit every time I see one on ebay. Can't wait to see it go together!

That car is on my projects list. I'll be watching your progress and stealing your ideas. smileyCACETROO_zps365bb43e
Did you use an airbrush or spray can on the body?

An airbrush is on my to get list but kits always seem to pop up at the wrong time, lol. If it's a tamiya kit you have it just falls together

Haven't bought the kit yet, but the Tamiya is the one I'll be getting.
I've been using and airbrush, but the simplicity of a spray can is very appealing. I've done some can spraying of primer, chrome and clear coat, and it's so much faster than airbrushing, and no cleanup. Unfortunately I can't afford a spray booth so I'd have to do it outdoors, or maybe in the garage. With the airbrush and acrylic paints I don't have to worry about fumes, at least not much.

Not doing the plug leads after all. Have spent the last 2 hours trying to get them to stay in place with no success

They're good kits and from what I've read the race versions have a stock option included. I will have more of these for some other builds and I too have plans for some custom ones (70's merc front end on one and another as minihaha) and to at least get the right kit to build my sisters one properly. This one would have needed way too many changes to be her one.

Body is back in paint. I was doing the last piece of bmf on the windows and it lifted the paint from the top of the door when I pulled off the excess. I also decided I had to wire the engine as it just looked too bare without them. I didn't use the kit distributor as I wrecked it trying to wire last night so made one from some sprue instead. I did find the engine to be a very tight fit when fitting so next time I build one of these I'll be fitting the dynamo after getting the engine in place. I also found the front brakes to be a little awkward but putting the discs on after getting the engine in place would solve that problem. I'll have more pics up later of current progress as I'm going to leave it to sit for about a week before foiling again as I think I didn't leave the paint long enough to go off this time. 2 days obviously isn't long enough, lol

Before trying to apply BMF for the first time I watched a Youtube video by Chris Chapman. He masks off the sections he's going to foil...that way any excess goes on the tape on not on the paint. Here's the link... Chris Chapman BMF video

I really like this build Stitch. Interior looks great and the steering wheel really sets it off. Very cool little engine.

This one is very close to finished. I just have to bmf one of the doors and do the black window surrounds on the front and rear windows and fit the lights and bumpers and glass. I just set it aside while I was back at my own house as I had more to do on the jag. Today is going to be foiling both and I should have at least one completed

It's finished, and only ten days late high-five-smiley-emoticon If you have or get this kit take care on final assembly. I had to do the door panels and back seat twice as in the instructions there seems to be a mistake as the body just wouldn't fit with them in. Also take care with the front as the engine is very tight and the dynamo is likely to pop off.

Great looking build stitch you done some great work on this , always liked these Mini Cooper's got a couple of them my self and will get around to building them some day . When you get to them remember to test fit everything cos some of it might need fitted later than the instructions say, like the back seat, door panels and dynamo. The dash has to be in exactly the right place too or the front of the body wont go down. I know for when I get another now, but I'll be getting the tamiya for engine/chassis and the fujimi mini mayfair for the interior and body so I can actually build my sisters, instead of this one which is for my sister

Looks Great. Chris Chapman has a lot of good videos. I like his series on acrylic paints.
