In April of 1966 you could buy a complete brand new 1966 Dodge Coronet 2-door street hemi, 4-speed, with blue streak tires for $3,150 from Mr. Norm's Grand Spaulding Dodge, the Midwest High-Performance king. Throw in an extra $6.95 if you wanted Norm to dyno tune it.

Tom, you got me to thinking. In the fall of '65 I did buy a Dodge Hemi, my first car. It was a 1953 with a 140hp 241cu in Red Ram Hemi with a Clutch-Flite tranny. It was a semi-barn find, as it had sat for years, but was in pretty decent shape. Parents were dead set against it, but since it hadn't run in years and only cost $1, they eventually said OK, because they thought I'd never get it running. The guys and I were going to tow it 25 miles home, but after about a mile, I threw it in gear and it eventually ran. It was ivory over apple green. The Shelby GT350 had just came out, so I put Shelby rocker and two over the top stripes on it, in contrasting ivory and apple green. I also put a piece of red cellophane in the dome light. It was a great senior year in high school and summer. My mom totaled it that winter, while I was away in college.
