Looks like an interesting build. I didn't realise the first engines ran on gunpowder, guess they really got bang for their buck. I do know of a tractor that is started with shotgun shells (minus the shot)

-I still say we need an area just for model engines. as the "kit"...... Car or otherwise....
KP, NICE work therefor a minute you had me thinkin this was a real engine and ran!

How did you do the carbon buildup on top of the piston sir? Very realistic I would say.

First I wrapped the pistol in masking tape leaving a ridge of about 3mm and rubbing it tightly round the top of the piston, then I painted the top with thinned down pva, then I sprinkled table salt round the edges and blew the surplus off. I let that dry then took the masking tape off I dabbed mig engine grease all round the edges then put humbrol dk earth in the middle let that dry then in the middle I randomly dabbed matt lt grey the mig engine grease looked a bit too shiney so I put a little bit of matt clear over most of it but left a few bits on the edges as I am pretty sure as I remember the edges of pistons did have a bit oily shiny appearance. Hope that helps.

Ken, You have done an extremely fine job on this engine. Engines are what I like to build most and I try to make the engines in my models as nice as I can. I have also built many engine kits. I think this is as good as it gets. Very realistic and well made. It looks real and it doesn't get any better than that. hand-clapping-smiley-emoticon

Nice work, I love how you make it all look real metal. If I didn't know it was plastic I would swear it's the real thing
