Hello all. I am 39 years old and new to modeling. I am disabled and miss the sense of accomplishment that comes with finishing something. So that led me towards modeling since I have always loved design and creating things. Mostly I am a Euro car guy, but in the last six months of starting I have tried many different types of car models (mainly because my LHS doesn't have many European cars.) That led me to the internet looking for other kits. Then I found modeling forums and learned everything I have been doing is wrong! So I am hear to learn. Currently I am working on a '77 Chevy Van trying to do a lot of the techniques for the first time that I learned online. So custom paint, scratch built interior, flocking, etc. And this one is a real struggle. Once I finally get this finished I am moving on to a straightforward box build of a Vette just to relax. But all of it is going to have to wait a few weeks, or months, because I just had back-to-back major surgeries and won't be able to sit at my work station (dining room table) for a while. So while I have some down time I am designing myself a new work desk and spray booth. (I asked Santa for an airbrush for Christmas!) So it's good to meet you all and thank you for letting me learn from you.

Weeeeeelllllll, its the Big Shoooww!!!!! WWE fans, anyone? smiley-confused005
Welcome to our forum, bud. Glad to see a new member venturing into uncharted waters. A 77 Chevy van is a pretty good project to start and especially if youre customizing it. After you customize one kit it's pretty difficult to do one box stock. There is no such thing sa doing things wrong, consider them different if they work for you. You can ask a simple question here on how to strip paint or how to chrome parts and you'll get a few different answers and they may all work. And we are all here to help so ask away. Some folks will even take the time to do tutorials for you.
But get comfortable and take a look around. We have plenty of stuff going on at once so feel free to see if you can jump into anything. A least get into the voting. We have the final race for our monthly braket racers so look into that. The poll closes tonight. Other than that, welcome, make some new friends, have fun and above all, get bcak to building!
Start a thread for your van when you get a chance.

Thanks guys. No not a wrestling fan. I am a big guy and earned that nickname at a former job and it stuck. A decade later when I run into the owners of that restaurant they still call me Big Show so I figured I would use it here. My real name is Shane in case anyone is interested. And I will post pics of the models I have finished and the nightmare I am currently working on once I feel a little better. I am kinda rough around the edges at the moment.

G'day Shane, like everybody else has said, WELCOME MATE. There is a great aray of skills going on here, and somebody can help you with pretty well everything you need to know. Some detail real well, some can paint and some are masters at scratch building, there is even one guy that knows every little detail about Hemi's, you will work that one out as soon as you start building one. Please, ask away if you need ANY guidance or info on anything you need to know to help you with getting back into this great hobby. Good luck under that knife too bud. prayer-hands-smiley-emoticon
