ok guys, check it out. a member here(mark)contacted me on facebook recently and asked if i had any spare time on my hands. as i just entered the annual winter lay-off(lawncare/landscaping) i have spare comin out my ears, so then he asks if i'm interested in doing a build in memorium of a fallen styrene brother Dave Lattimer. well heck yeah i can do that! so he says he'll get it shipped out with the quickness. here's what arrived a couple days ago first thought...whoa! been awhile since i built a big rig(like since the Rubber Duck Mack was originally released)but it's kool cuz i been eyeballin them on ebay. this kit in particular i was checkin out since i like the "square box, no frills" style of truck(read older like 70's and 80's). i would've gotten a box or lowboy with it but it's kool, i can do this. talkin with Mark we decided on a green paintjob similar to this and the name will be Fallen Brothers Trucking. i start goin through this to familiarize myself and get started on the engine and reference research. right away i notice something that does not please my eyes you can see the hollow backside of the turbo halves(this happens in other places/parts as well)so i do this and this is how far i've gotten into the motor/trans so far enjoy

Great start Frank. It's always great to have someone reach out to you and request some sort of build. I know you'll get it done right.

Most excellent Frank. Can't wait to see this build come together. Like your turbo fix. I built quite a few rigs back in the day. They were always one of my favorite kind of builds.

Cool a big truck, If you need any chrome parts I've got all the chrome dress up parts left from my truck(except one tank and the wheels). I think you'll enjoy getting this built up too. Does these kits have plastic or rubber tyres? If its plastic I have 6 rubber ones spare from a volvo kit 1/24 scale though

I'll be following along too! That "Star" has a kitty for a motor! NICE work Frank!!!!! I just wished I could find the same truck, with the BIG bunk on it. Like the one i used to drive! Same truck, different bunk.."sleeper"!!!!! What color did ya paint the engine and stuff Frank? This one may have to go onto my "to get" list. Not the trailer, BUT the tractor looks AWESOME! And because its Kitty powered well...... its right up my alley!

I know Frank will do a great job. More importantly, it is the details like the turbo fix and a build style that Frank will put into this build that will turn it into just what it is supposed to be. It is hard to put into words why I wanted to do this build, but I when I realized I wouldn't be able to get the bench time to complete it, I knew Frank was the right guy for the job. Thanks and good luck, Brother!

I need to get some turbos but I don't know where to get them. I never thought about these big trucks but I just won the Lindberg Dodge L-700 and 40 Ford Coupe with Flatbed Trailer. I'll post pics of it when it comes in. That S. Pruitt truck you built there Frank sure is a beauty.

Looks great knarf!!!!
I am particularly fond of the chicky babe picture next to the Monster Jam / STP stickers on the work bench, LOL!!!!
But for sure, I will be following this, I need to build myself a rig or two, seeing as I drove them for about 15 years!!

Frank, that says its to be a Cummins then! The Camo Tan is a dead giveaway to that but the actual engine looks more like a "Cat" to me.......... BUT that tells me that either I didn't get the best look at the rocker covers, OR being an older diesel between Cat and Cummins the older versions, back before (1990) or somewhere there abouts they did the 2 different engines have VERY CLOSE similarities! SO, it could be played either way....
The end details when your done with that motor, BE sure to post good pics of the engine.......... the end details will tell which one it truly is!
GREAT work tho! NICE to see something the same scale, just a few more axles and wheels then our normal "4 wheelers"....

Try this Frank, lay down a sheet of BMF, then spray the dash, and then run around the rim of the guages with a very fine q-tip with thinners on it, this will bring the paint back off just the rims. Then do your decal for the guage. (i did this for the first time ever on the rear quarter lettering on the black fairlane recently worked out OK.) .

Thats EXACTLY what I was referring too. A LOT to be done on a 18 wheeler dash, ANY ONE of them! (I owned a '89 Western Star 6400 Series), with a 600 Cat in it, just before I got married as I had to let go of my CDL's due to me being Diabetic.....The guy that taught me to drive owns that truck today....

I myself, would drill out the whole gauge, and then turn and polish Aluminum tube, to fit the hole, and then add in a clear lens to the hole size, with a decal to follow. BUT thats just me!
Dale, I'll have to give your way a try when I get to the dash on one of many builds I have going on!
