Just keeping it simple until I get a dedicated bench set up. Got to rebuild my spray booth too, all i have left of it is the fart fan ! Perfect time for a matte finish rat rod project. And now I remember why I hated old Revell kits, three piece engine blocks suck. Going to be pretty near box stock, until I can replenish the parts bins.

Lol !! I forgot Robot was in the pic. Don't even think he had a name, just B-9 Environmental Robot. I've had the Robot kit since 1998 or so, and never built it. But found it a couple weeks ago in some stuff. So Robot is what kinda got me back in the hobby.

Great start. The California classic kits are bitter sweet in my opinion. All opening doors, hood n trunk but so much flash. With time some have warped. I have the 55 & 56 kits in my stash. Haven't checked them lately so I hope they're still good.

I started this exact model about a month ago, only with Greese movie decals, I was so disappointed with the poor fit and sink holes on the body I put it away again , and now have it back on the bench for the American Graffiti 10 years on build, only with a twist. Good luck with it mate, hope you have more patience than I did with it, it will be a good model once you repair everything and get the doors etc hanging properly.

I haven't cut the support braces yet, but we'll see what happens when I do. If the body starts to twist, I'll seal those doors right up ! I can live with only openeing hood and trunks. Besides, I've never had much luck with opening doors, unless I engineer the hinges out of pin stock, and quite frankly I have been away from the workbench far too long to try that on my first car.

I too had one of these and the thing way back when was so twisted all I ever did was try to get the body lines to line up and then even leaving the doors alone and "shut" didn't help............. Duster good luck my friend! This '57 is a PITA kit..... EVERYONE I know thats built one or is going too. says the same thing, I simply wonder if the mold is shot. I think its an old kit so.....
Can't wait to see what ya do with it tho!

Think I might just go with the primer look. Stance needs to get fixed in the rear, tubs incoming. Those doors are getting glued shut, I don't feel like messing with the warp ! Right now I'm looking at the stock small block with some scratch injectors, and maybe some lakes type pipes out the side. I've still got lots of aluminum tubing, so I can bend those up. Until I get the old parts box refilled, I'll have to be more creative

I like that stance. The primer look will work. Will you be detailing the trim in any way?

I already dropped the rear end (mr dremel is my friend) As for the trim, yeah, I was planning on trimming it all out. I'm just trying to decide on the color / shade for the bel air trim. I've seen these with a matte chrome finish, but I've also seen them with a gold anodized look too. Don't know if the gold anodized is factory, but I do like the look. Just have to figure out the paint to use. Probably looking at testors gold w/ testors aluminum mix.

Revell 7306 California Classics
But I would seriously discourage anyone buying this when there are plenty of other 57' kits out that aren't as big a pain in the ass as this one !

I had one of these '57's YEARS ago and I remember then it was a PITA........Seriously, your right there are PLENTY of '57 Chevy's to build that are a bunch better on the skill level. this one glue them damn doors shut WELD 'em! That'll fix the problem, then, the driver will have to get in it, like Bo and & Luke Duke did in the General Lee! LOL

Engine hoist ? No problemo .... Finally modded the wheel wells to get me some horizontal depth, which allowed me more vertical depth. (original wells had 1/4 deep bumps keeping me from getting bigger tires in there) Decided to go with the baby moons in the background too. Finally got to the hobby store to replenish my dried out bottle paints and gummed up brushes. $38 in just bottle paints alone, and new Flexi Files!! (yay) The cat gnawed up my old set of files, so they were all boogered up. Engine wiring is crap, but it's my first try in 5 years soooo

I used to have a teenie weenie pair of needle nose pliers that made it a lot easier to roll a better circle for the handle. Gotta find them dang things ......

Looking good there. You know for bottles of paint eBay always, always, always has lots for a very good price. Sometimes $1 per bottle. It's good to replenish when you need just about any color.

I'm liking this build. Engine is looking good. It takes just a little bit to get the momentum going again after being out of the hobby for a while, and getting over the sticker shock of how much the cost of stuff has gone up, but a lot of your knowledge and skills will start coming back quickly. Before you know it you will even be trying all kinds of new techniques that you see others doing and trying.

Get an engraver and mark all your tools and what not, that way you have proof they are yours and not hers. Clandestine raids of her sewing/craft room are not out of the question either, just don't get caught. If you do take some of her tools, take unmarked ones and make them yours with the engraver. I sure hope my wife never sees this post.
