Does anyone here have any experience with home surveillance systems? I'm in need of one. There been lots of break-ins in my little town and the other night they hit about 4 houses within a block from my house.
Its sad we live in a world like this, and my town has a population of about 330 which makes it even worse.
Thanks for any help or advice you guys have!

Oh wow. Security is a big concern no matter where you live. Monitronics provides my service out here. They outsource their installers but I haven't had any issues with the service. I think if you agree to a 3 year term they give you so much worth of equipment to install at no cost. At would include sensors for doors and windows, the touch pad. You can buy more of the equipment and get it installed at the same time. They have cameras, garage door openers. Everything really. Less than $50 a month I think. Check out their website.
I'm sure there are a few others too.

I also have Monitronics like Iceman has. I have had it for years and it never fails. It's monitored faithfully and they call the cops for you and all that.

Thanks Dennis. I checked out their website and it looks like a pretty good deal for what you get. I think for now though, I'm gonna buy a DVR home surveillance system with 4 cameras and install it myself, but I will get one with 8 channels so I can install 4 more cameras later if I want or feel the need lol.
I think the security system is a good deal, just not sure I have the extra $50/month to that right now with the new baby coming in a little more then a month.
I don't worry about my stuff or my house/ family while I'm there, as the dog and my 12 gauge will take care of anyone that's not invited lol. Its when I'm not there or no one is there that I worry about. If someone was to break in, I'd like to know what they look like cause chances are its someone that lives in town.

I think you are right and your idea is better in your situation. I understand about finances with a new baby. Congrats and all but I'm glad I'm through all that. Both of my kids are grown but it's hard to get them gone. I grew up in a small farm town in Ill and you are right about that too. Everybody knows everybody and when they sneeze.

JB - with you up in Iowa, you might want to check with ADT. (I used to live in that area for awhile - LOL) We still have ADT here in Oklahoma, it runs about 44 a month, or something like that. A lot of times they will offer you free install with a 2-3 year agreement. We have had our share of "bad news" where we live as well. Doesn't matter - city, suburbs, rural, we are all open season for douche bags

I don't blame ya for being over having little ones, Dennis. My son will be 3 in February and he's beginning to be a little terror lol.
CC, you're right everywhere is "open season for douche bags" Lmao.
Nice thing about such a small town is, eventually they'll get caught or snitch on themselves.

2 Pit Bulls will do the trick AND you don't have to "trust" anyone to watch over some screens and call the police if there is a break in, Dogs will be on it the second a sound is made outside, WHICH by the way is the BEST deterrent to rid the problem! -the growl of a rather pissed off dog of ANY size!
Go this route, put "Beware of Dog" signs UP at ALL entrances and exits, and "little" ones in your windows, on the lower level.....GIVE those idiots "warning", then they can't come back and have you in court for the dogs doing their job!
