Wow, what a busy few months i have had at the bench since i joined you guys, i have built 10 models so far this year, which is more than i build over a whole year. I was looking forward to the Turbo cars build, but i'm buggered. I have spent a fair amount of time trying to finish my 1:1 ute, which i debuted at a pre 70's show this week-end, am very happy with the feedback and comments i got, stoked over the moon is an understatement.  This week-end coming is the BIGGEST week-end in motorsport here in Australia, (probably the world, but i'm biased. ) . It is the BATHURST 1000, 161 laps around MT PANORAMA, with the V8 SUPERCARS. So Friday, Saturday and Sunday are all out for building, only eating and drinking for me. Then it will take a couple of early nights to get over it all and get the body back on track, so after all this, then i will mosey back into the model room and start looking for the next one guys. If you do not know about Mt Panorama, Bathurst, google it guys, it makes Laguna Seca look almost flat, and i love that track too. Remember, this "track" is a public road for most of the year, and only the last 15 or so years has it had a concrete fence, and it has been run for 50 years. Some of the older footage is brilliant. Here is a taste. This first one is old footage of our ledgend Peter Brock who was killed about 10 years ago, he was our Dale Earnhardt. This one is our current ledgend, Craig Lowndes, who was mentored by Brocky as a young fella. And this is how the mountain can bite. wait till the last one, it is a 300 kph nascar style crash. If you can find a live feed on the computer, or speed channel telecast, i highly recommend it guys i will not miss a second of this race, it is AWESOME!! |

That is so cool, Dale. I don't see why you didn't expect all the compliments for your ute. It is beautiful. And you painted it yourself! You SHOULD be proud. Great job, again on that.
Sounds like a lot of fun, especially the eating and drinking part. Have some fun and bring back a few pictures.
We'll be here when you get back, I guarantee it!

WOOPS, it sounds like i'm going to the track,  sorry, not this year, it is 2000km away on the mainland of Australia , too many $$$$$ for this year, it is one incredible track, but this year, i will only see it on the TV, but it is 3 days of live action, so will still take a toll on me, but hey, it's only once a year, i am at the moment cooking my own sausage rolls, little pies and making burgers to cook on the day, and stocking the fridge ready for the week-end. Besides, since they brought in "responsible drinking" on the mountain, they have cut everybody back to 1 carton of beer (30 block), per person, per day, some of these people camp on the mountain for a week, imagine the chaos by sunday night. Yes John, i will have square eyes, but that will be the least of my problems, i am more worried about the head and guts come monday morning when i front up for work.  It is qualifying day, and the mountain has claimed its first victim, early in the dat David Reynolds claimed the new lap record, a bit later the mountain claimed its first victim. It will be fixed for sundays race, but he will need new driving suit i reckon. |

DAMN! Dale, thats an insane track man! I can not say just how much.........driver talent has got to be there to go to a track like that! I live less then 1/2 hour from Loudon, New Hampshire "New Hampshire Motor Speedway" for Nascar and those tracks can't even complete with a track like you got not to awful far away!
All I can say is someone ought to check there shorts man! LOL

WOW!! Sorry, looks like the link didn't work, but WOW, what a day, way tooooooo many beers, but the race came down to the last lap, insane!! 1000km, and it came down to the last lap!!
I should be right by about tuesday, if you are interested, it can be googled, was a cracker today, bit of a track break-up issue this morning, but forgot about yhat towards the end, young guy started dead last
only led 500mtrs for the whole day, but it was the most important 500mtrs for the whole day.
This is the greatest race in the world, a total driver and car BREAKER!!

so Dale, are these cars reproduced in scale? Alot of these are only done in 1/18 dicast unfortunately, would love to see them in 1/24 plastic. |
