Do not use testors enamels. Will not dry for years it seems. I use a paint for model railroad called scale coat. Dries nice and fast, and has a flat finish like a rubber look. A good idea. dullcoat the tire before lettering. Will help paint stick..

"White out" works well too. Basically any acrylic paint will work. I have some tires I used enamel to paint white walls on probably 15 years ago and they're still tacky lol.

I use model color acrylic to brush with or if I'm doing whitewall tires I'll use model air and airbrush it.Both work very well on tires.

-I've been hunting "Future" as I read that it will allow you to use Testors Enamel on the tires ONCE CURE, NOT dry! And if not that, I look for White Gel Pens, but haven't found a single "white" one yet...... What about the white paint markers from Sharpie? NOT the oil based ones but the acrylic ones? Hmmmmm
I know why the enamels won't dry, its due to the vinyl the tire is made of, it continues to attack the vinyl and thats why it doesn't "dry", or cure even.....Back in the day, I wonder how they got around that?! Because at ones time all you had was vinyl tires and enamel paint!

Sharp, As for what I have read and have been literally told, the "future" doesn't require being sprayed, which makes sense, its "Self-Leveling" so, this being said, its not required if you'd use a "feathering" type paint brush for fading one color to another within brush strokes, it should turn out smooth IF it is that good of a material as far as its uses, I plan to invest in a bottle of it and just see what I can make it do. LOL
Stuff sounds almost to good to be true BUT that makes it worth a try! (TRY it on a junk tire first!

The experiment turned out good with the rubber tires. Airbrushed 3 coats of future, let dry for 1 hour then I brush painted the white letters with testors.after that I used a hair dryer to dry the paint.Everything worked out good! Give it a try.

The reason why I like to airbrush future is you can control how much material goes on the part, if you spray it to wet it will come out shinny,if you brush it or dip the parts ,it will be to shinny for tires.

You have to use acrylic paint or gel ball point pens.

Well sure if you only use the Future floor shine, BUT once you add the future then paint the white letters, you can then go back with the air brush and add a semi gloss or "Matte" clear to take off some of the shine! Heck if nothing else, you could use Testors "Dullcote" to remove ALL the shine if the whole tire was covered with Future.....

Sharp, No issue, I was merely saying you use "Future" as a gloss clear, BUT that doesn't give you the other sheens of clear, AKA, Flat, Semi-Gloss, Matte, etc....See? With different textures of clear cote you can achieve all sorts of looks, you take Chrome, and dullcote it, to "flatten" its look no shine, it then looks like sort of unpolished aluminum.....BUT you can't get that effect with Future, as it is just a shine put over whatever color you apply it too....
I've been told you can remedy "fogged" windshield glass too with Future, I'll have to try that myself!

If your looking for an "aluminum" look, unpolished, the Testors Dullcote is the way to go! Sprayed or brushed right over the chromed part, will heed the aluminum look result!
I've been doing that with models for years and it has yet to fail me when thats the look I'm trying to achieve!

Your welcome man, its all about share and share alike, you know? We're all in this to gain a little something, I have a few tricks but don't by any means know it all..... I'm still trying to figure out which "Pledge" floor Polish is "Future".....WAY to many choices on floor polish so....And I want to get the right one, BEFORE I mess up a single paint job LOL

The bottle on the left is the old one. The one one the right is what's out there now. If you look closely, you will find the Future logo, after the word finish.
